There's this really old, run down store near me, and I go in there on occasion to see if they have anything interesting. This is the type of store that still has ammo from 1970 that they bought new, along with a wall of rusty bolt actions collecting dust, and the occasional MRAD thrown in between the war relics.

A friend saw a few old blue Benchmade boxes in the corner, and I found this one still in the box--it doesn't appear to have been carried or used at all. It's a #600 Brend 2 combat folder and feels pretty solid. It still has the factory edge and appears to be mint/LNIB. Can you tell me anything about this knife? Are the older BMs of the same quality as the newer ones? I also have a BM 943 and custom Grip, but I didn't even know BM made knives this old. What would you consider to be a fair market price given its age and condition?

Not sure how to post pics quite yet, but here are two Imgur direct links:

Also, they had a Benchmade 970HK with what appeared to be black G10 grips and a black tanto blade with a USP engraved on one side and HK's logo on the other side IIRC. They were asking $90 for this one. How common are these? Is that a good deal? Would it be worth returning to pick it up? Unfortunately I don't have any pics of that one.

Thanks for any help you can give me! :)

eBay, completed sales - that'll give you a 60 days past reference window...

Can't help you with dollar value because a) I don't know, and b) you have to be a gold member or higher to ask that info. BUT... I can tell you that the Brend and box look legitimate and that BM stopped using ATS34 round about the turn of the century, give or take a year or two. They switched to 154CM. The QC of older BMs has been good in my experience. I've bought a few from the time we're talking about and they've all been solid, dependable knives. Mine were all AXIS locks in the 72xx series. AFAIK, they're still going strong. I see one of them now and then for sharpening. Has no issues that I'm aware of.

Sorry--I never would have thought that asking values wasn't allowed. Thanks for the info.

pointman12, the rule was the result of stealth marketing. We had people come here, ask for help with values, then slip in a "hint" that these knives were up for grabs.

So now, even to ask, you need a membership that would allow you to also sell.
