So, I saw a really good looking Spyderco Subvert with maroon scales and said “my Subvert need maroon scales”. I got Rit dye, followed the YouTube tutorial and got...still orange scales. What am I doing wrong?

I cleaned the scales in acetone, used a whole bottle of dark brown and a whole bottle of wine dye, got the mix steaming hot and soaked the scales for like half and hour and nothing. I dyed my Pacific Salt (FRN scales) green with no problem.

Yes. It helps the dye absorb into the material better. Try a few tablespoons of white vinegar.

Thanks. The FRN took the dye great even without vinegar. Thought I had some sort of special G10.
