Ok, I have a problem. I have a good size knife arsenal and I have such a Hard time with finding a knife to carry. I will buy a new one and I'll swear that Ima going to edc it for a while then another one finds it's way into my life and BAMO! Same thing! I'm having a meltdown here folks! Can't figure out which one to carry, id like to carry all of them but Id prolly end up in jail or commited. Not enough pockets! Not enough time! Just so I feel that I'm not alone, do any of y'all out in bf land have the same issue? HELP! edc issue!

^^^ That. For my EDC, I carry a SAK plus a locking folder. There are 5 right now that I rotate through most days (just randomly pick one at the start of the day). I'll also occasionally re-visit past EDC's (usually after seeing/reading something that reminds me of a particular knife).

I carry my 3 favorites. I have lanyard on two of them so they sit in my deep pocket, and the other one is clipped on my pocket.

Today my edc is my dpx hest,Benchmade/Emerson spec war cqc7 and my kabar tdi/ldk...yesterday: barrage 581, fox citizen and tdi/ldk....

A rotation is the way to go. I bring new knives into the rotation occasionally but lately the rotation has been small sebenza 21, para2, ritter mini in cpm-m4 w/cuscadi custom scales, spyderco southard, and a benchmade ares limited edition in m390. I buy new knives for specific uses (really any excuse I can find), but I always have a rotation of 5 or 6 of my favorites for edc.

Yeah just get a rotation going. I have knives spread out all over the places I go and things I own (home, vehicles, work, etc.) and use them, but I also always have a knife or 3 on me and I rotate those.

I am bad about it too. I just can't stop looking for the next knife. Bigger, better, smoother, sharper, whatever. I have tried to make a system where i plan what chore my knife will need to accomplish for the day, then i pick accordingly. Since there are no knife stores close to me, when I hear a gun and knife show is coming it is like crack to me. Like this weekend!!! Hoping there is someone selling esee knives there because I am on the hunt for a great camp knife. I bought 3 CRKT edc folders in the last 2 weeks already. Good cheap edc and if I break them I won't care.

I used to have the same problem, until I got a spyderco military.

now I have to force myself to put a different one in my pocket for a day every couple weeks. but then I usually carry the military anyways.

I think this is pretty common around here. I know that every morning before leaving the apartment, I open my knife case and just look at them for a good minute or 2. I have to force myself to rotate sometimes, especially after I get a new one and want to carry it a lot. I'm sure it will only get worse as my collection grows.

Try to make your carry decision the night before. That way, you don't waste too much time. My daily carry varies based on what clothes I'm wearing, and where I'll be going that day. Luckily I have enough knives to cover any and all daily situations. If you need to force yourself to rotate, set up a schedule, which will make decision making easier.

If you find you have too many to choose from, take a few and store them away for a little while. Or, you could just give them away.

This hobby/obsession should not cause you stress. Take joy in the fact that you have been blessed with much, and make a point of having fun with it all.

Kudos.....good advise

I think that after reading how so many BF members have this problem we should take a step back. You (not the poster but members in general) spend thousands of dollars on many knives that you DON'T NEED! Then, many complain of the burden of having so much. Please don't say you need more than three or four. Think about how many people of the 7 billion inhabitants of this planet couldn't afford a Sebenza ever. People around here have a small and large 21, many high end Spyderco blades, Hinderer blades, customs and so on. I just can't make myself get another knife because the four I have are more than I need. Having 50 knives is like a king with so much demanding more from the peasants in his kingdom... sickening. I am well aware that this notion is counter to the BF mentality. I'm sorry if this upsets anyone. Perhaps if your offended it's because at times the truth hurts.

I suppose if you have a lot of spendable cash, then you must buy something. Knives are awesome and they sure get rid of excess money. I make a very small amount compared to many and can still donate some. People that spend thousands a month on knives but don't help others frustrate me. It's your choice but I can have an opinion of it. First world developed nations are full of the most ungrateful, wasteful and resource hogging people. Only in these places do people complain about having too much.

Sorry to vent about this here but it has been bothering me for a while. Imagine the hope in humanity and joy a person who lost their job would experience from you buying them some clothes instead of a knife. You could make the world a better place instead of adding another knife to that big box of them that never get used.

OUCH! That is quite a soapbox you are standing on. I suppose you could have picked any hobby to rant on, but you picked knives. I believe most people work very hard for their money. Who am I, or you, to tell them what they should spend it on? Collecting and using knives is a passion for many. The price of the knife increases with the discretionary income level of each person just as it will with clothes, cars, jewelry, etc.

That is all well and good. Each person is different, wants and needs are different. What really pisses me off abiut what you are implying is that none of these knife enthusiasts are giving people. Your over generalization that we are just greedy, self absorbed jerks. No sir, you have no idea what I have, or any of thes other people, have given for their families, friends, communities, states, countries or humanity in general. I feel great abount myself and know that if I want to spend my hard earned money on what you consider a waste, I have earned it.

I keep a simple table on my phone & laptop that supplements my weekly planner on which I record what I plan to wear & carry each day including the knives I carry. I don't follow it 100% but it helps me rotate my knives, bags, footwear, etc. as well as makes it easier to plan laundry & dry cleaning. If I'm meeting with the same client a week or 2 apart it helps keep me from wearing the exact same thing. I use it for planning things like meals and exercise too.

It is difficult for me to move past the hypocrisy in this post. Here you say that there is no need for more than three or four knives, yet in a post you made two days ago:

Very kind of you to give away an old companion! I would be very attached to the knife.

I have a Endura 4, Dragonfly 2 and Tenacious.... (whispers) and a few Benchmades but NO PARA2.

50 posts shouldn't be a problem if I try.

Thanks for the consideration.

Where you state that you have three Spyderco knives as well as a "few" (I'm assuming three) Benchmade knives, and you seem eager to get another knife through a give away.

My presumption - please correct me if I am wrong - is that you are posting from a personal computer. Why have you spent several hundred dollars for a computer and internet access, when you could have donated that money to charity? Why are you spending time on Bladeforums when you could be volunteering your time tutoring children or working at a soup kitchen? In another post, you mention that you refuse to fly due to the TSA, and that your furthest trip is 6 hours--implying that you own a car. Why have spent that money on a machine that is depreciating, instead of funding an NGO or charity organization that will invest your money to give to the poor?

This seems common. I leave a T6, T8 and T9 on my table next to the couch.

Why do you own a couch or a table? I have neither. The money would be more useful if you donated it to someone so that they could eat for a month, rather than have been spent on something you sit on and keep your torx bits on.

Many people donate time and money to help other people. Not everyone goes out of their way to vaingloriously bring attention to that fact.

To the OP, sorry for the digression, and I would suggest re-profiling a few of your knives. In my experience it gives a knife a whole new "feeling" and makes it seem like completely different knife. Not only do you get practice sharpening, you also won't spend extra money on a new knife that you may not end up liking. The downside is that you might get into sharpening, and end up spending a fair amount of money on sharpening equipment.

Cynic,

The Endura is my every day knife, the Dragonfly and Tenacious are my fiance's and a Griptilian are all I have now. I fully admit that I should have said "I have had" and not "I have". Please notice the price of those knives. So, I have two knives and my lady has two... not sure where I am by hypocritical here.

Notice my post count isn't climbing hardly at all. I was tempted by a free blade. Once time went by and my mind pondered it I have lost the desire for it. I swear that if I am chosen I'll pass on it. Hell, I will keep my count at 49 until after so there is no chance.

As far as the computer and internet... that's stupid and maybe a bit cynical. I must have it for work and it's far from a new machine. We have basic internet, no cable, dish and we share a low price phone plan. You don't know how I live. I can see not having a couch or chair, many cultures eat and sit on the floor. However, our table was $10 from a yard sale and the couch is a family hand me down. Again, you know not what you speak of. It's hilarious that you say the table is for keeping torx bits on.

I was not being vain of exalting my glory. Notice I said I give some. I'm not pretending to be some saint who gives all and has nothing. Looking over my post how do you even see my one sentence about donating some vaingloriously seeking attention.

We all have opinions and it's great you expressed yours. You don't seem to care for mine... guess how I feel about yours. I was simply upset that some around here complain about having so much that it's somehow a hassle. If anyone has so much of whatever they collect that it's troublesome then maybe they have too much. Nearly everyone I know consumes much more then they personally need. It seems to fill some void in us. I fight it every day and still fall short. Anyone remember a few weeks ago (or longer) about people spending 10k+ on just knives. I am pretty sure that they have a big TV, new(er) car and lots of other expensive things.

Even I live like a king compared to most of the 7 billion. Still, many in this country live like gods and just don't appreciate it... that's all.

Nowhere did I state I had "too many Knives" all I said is that I'm having trouble figuring out which ones to carry. I love every blade I own, it was more or less a way to make some buddies on a thread, not start some crap about the toys for tots!! Holy crap!!
