Ok guys, I can sharpen my knife pretty good when its still got that good factory edge. Once it loses the edge, what would yall consider is the best way to regrind that bevil on the blade?? Also, I have a few scratch marks on the blade, Is there any way to polish these off?? My EDC is a CR Umnum, so i really dont want to mess it up trying different things. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!!!

The Umnumzaan's blade hides most scratches because of the stonewashed finish. If the scratches bother you, send the knife in to CRK and have them reblast the blade. It's going to get scratches again anyway. As far as sharpening CRKs in general, it's not bad at all and you can get decent results from just about anysharpening contraption out there (Sharpmaker, Lansky, paper wheels, Edge Pro, benchstones, etc.). The steel is not hardened to the maximum RC so, give it a shot with whatever methods you currently use.

I've been upkeeping the factory edge with a strop on mine. I think the slightly lower RC makes it easier to sharpen and work the edge on a strop.

I'm not sure that there is a best way, just a way that works for you.

It seems to me that CRK puts a slight convex on their factory edges, so over time if you are sharpening with, say, a Spyderco Sharpmaker, you are going to start running into the bevel when sharpening, rather than the edge.

At that point, as you mention, you need to re-profile the bevel. Do you want to keep a convex bevel, or do you want to go for a v-grind bevel?

The scratches are cosmetic only, and won't affect the use of the knife.

What do you use to sharpen, and what techniques are you familiar with?

Thats the point i was trying to make, bout the bevel on the blade. Thanks Cynic!! I currently use a sharpmaker, and im not familiar with any techniques really. Only the instruction manual that came with it. So what would you recommend to reshape the bevel?? I would like the V grind style also.

i did my sebenza with the edgepro. it took some time to get the v all the way to the edge

It's going to take forever to re-bevel with just the standard Spyderco rods.

Get some coarse diamond stones, or get the Spyderco diamond rods.

I free-hand sharpen. I actually just watched So-Lo's videos on his sharpening process, and mine is virtually the same.

I use the sandpaper and mousepad technique. Works wonders for me. I really enjoy the process as well. :)

Where can you get the diamond rods for the Spyderco??

Most of the reputable online knife stores will probably have them. I left you a visitor message.
