Help etching DS6

I'm trying to salt water etch my DS6. I've been at it for an hour or so and it really doesn't look like it's very deep. How can I test the depth of the etch before using the citristip?

I have the negative end clipped to the tip of the blade and I'm using the positive to etch. I see a ton of little bubbles then it dies down and I switch q-tips and see more again.

Also, the tips of the q-tip aren't getting black/stained but the spot where the alligator clips are attached are.

Any help would be appreciated. I'd had to strip it and have it not show the logo.

Thanks!

How much power you use will have a big effect on the time , put 3ea 9 volt battery together .

I used 2 9v in parallel and went through 9 q-tips and was plenty deep. Pressing down & back and forth on the letters. Took about 30 mins if that

Sorry , you can hook the 9 volts together positive to negative like lego.
As soon as the q tip gets dirty I change it. That will also keep your etch cleaner.
If your logo is fine it will be hard to see how deep your etch is vs having like a large Busse where you can feel the depth .
I just did a swamp rat this week but did not take any photo , it did not seem to be very deep but after stripping it was
Hope this helps

Thanks but something is definitely wrong. I just tried to etch a salad fork and it didn't do anything. Lots of fizzing and I think all that's happening is the electroplating on the alligator clip is smoking off.

I've been holding it to this DS6 for 2 hours now and it looks no deeper than when I started. I would have expected to be clear through the blade at 2 hours!

Thanks!

Yep...Positive to the blade
Negative to the Q-tip.
I can give a course on this 9v etching process. When you think you are deep enough....keep going. A magnifying glass works great with the correct lighting.

Clip the positive to the sharp part of the blade that is usually bare steel for better conductivity. Use lots of salt in the water and change qtips very frequently.
