Help! Eze Sharp angle problems

Howdy all.

I have just bought an Ezi Sharp blade sharpener. I have been practicing on some old knives.

After I clamp in the knife there is a difference in the angle from one side to another. I reckon the angle is between 2 and 4 degrees. It makes a real mess when doing a 20 degree or less edge. For such an expensive sharpener id have thought this wouldn’t be a problem. Or is it just me?

Are there any secrets to setting it up to work identical angles each side? (other than clamping and un-clamping each side:( and so forth).

Does any one else have this problem?

Cheers

Dan

First, I'm not familiar with that product. Questions: Does it do the same with all knives or just one? Is there a depth stop so the knife is always at the same place in the guide?

Maybe I need to go look at some sites to see the Eze?

I spoke to the manufacturer. They are sending me a new flipover. They assume I got a dud. I will see if the problem is rectified when the replacement arrives. Heres hoping.

I was thinking it may be possible to improve the clamping jaws. Otherwise modify the flipover to work like the flat support in the Edge pro.

Anyhow i will let you know when the replacment flipover gets here.

OK, I took a look at it. It is possible the the flipover is not centered on the shaft. You could check it with a height guage or maybe any stable objec with a single point of reference like a sewing needle stuck into a solid block of wood. clamp a thin strip of metal like a double edge razor or a thin feeler gauge into the flipover, set the "guage/reference point" even with the thin metal in the flipover. Get it lined up perfectly. Flip the flipover over and see if it still lines up.

If not you could file half the difference in thickness from the thick side.

Or just wait for the new one and hope it is better.

I got the new flipover in the mail today. It works fine. It seems there is a manufacturing fault with the one I first had. I suppose thats what happens when you outsource manufacturing to Asia.

I'm thinking real seriously about buying one. What stones are you going to buy to use with your EZ sharp? Seems like the sky is the limit. I was thinking about using the Japanese water stones.

Sure, as long as they are the 8x2", 8x3" or 9x3" lengths. It would also help if they were at least 1/2" thick too, I guess you would have to see a stone holder to know why...

I have got a Norton combi india/silica carbide. Also I have ordered a course and medium DMT diamond plates and medium, fine and ultra fine spyderco ceramic bench stones and also a 4000 and 6000 Ice bear waterstone.
