hi everyone. i just found your site today while trying to find some knives. i've looked all over the web for these and i haven't been able to find anything close enough to suit my needs. so i was hoping i could get a little help from some experts.

the knife i'm looking for should look just like a case xx p210 fillet knife. i've added a picture below. the handle doesn't really matter but the blade needs to look exactly like the one in the picture and be about 7"-7.5" long.

i want to use these for a movie prop replica and i've had a friend give me a few tips on finding these. unfortunately, i haven't been able to find anything close to these knives. i know there's a model currently in production but i haven't been able to find it.

if nobody knows of any knife like this then maybe you can give me some info on the one pictured. is that blade style common? does the style have a name?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like a sickle of sorts.

Any one of the custom knife makers that post here could make one. It would be on the cheaper side, considering it would just be a movie prop. They could use cheap metal, even aluminum. It doesn't even need to be ground (the blade edge I mean), which again, makes things that much cheaper.

thanks for the quick reply!

the only problems i see with getting these custom made is it has to have the top bevel that follows the contour of the blade and it needs to be mirror finish. oh and it needs to be thin and semi flexible.

i've thought about looking into getting them made but i think the cost of getting it done would be more than it needs to be.

i appreciate the help though.

Mirror finish wouldn't be that hard on a wheel with polishing compound. I suppose the bevel would take a bit of time, but again, the actual blade edge doesn't need to be ground, unless you want to film with a live blade. Edge grinding is always one of the hard parts in knife making, which is why many factory edges are uneven. Since you don't really need the thing to cut, the knife maker can just make it look 'real' on camera without having to concentrate on having an even blade grind...the main bevel as you said is all that you need.

Also, I'm guessing aluminum would be the way to go. Aluminum is way easier to work with than even the cheapest steel, which is much much harder especially if you get something with a high carbon content.

The knife makers here are pretty reasonable. I'd try to get in touch with a few of them over in the "knife makers" forums. You can get a price quote and see if that's in the budget.

yeah the blade doesn't need to be sharp. it just needs to look sharp lol. i'll poke around the knife makers forum and see what i come up with.

thanks a lot!

Welcome! Those are interesting blades indeed. What are they used for? harkamus nailed it, looks sickle-ish. I'm intrigued now. lol
Feel free to "snoop around"...and Enjoy. ;)

the knives pictured are discontinued case xx p210 knives. i believe they are fillet knives.

i need blades exactly like those to build freddy krueger replica gloves. the blades really make the glove so i need these so my gloves can be more accurate lol.

That should make things even cheaper. Since they'll be for gloves, you wouldn't even need the maker to put handle scales on it...hell you don't even need a handle, just the curved part, am I right?

yep just the blade itself with at least 2" of the tang.

Hope you get a knife maker to help you out. Be sure to post pics of the finished glove when you have it made. I'm intrigued as well.

here's a few pictures of a glove i finished a few days ago. you can see the blades aren't bad at all but they're too thick and the shape isn't exactly correct.

Very impressive.

I can just hear little kids screaming now.

EDIT: Freddy used to scare the shit out of me. Slightly off topic...the new guy playing Freddy makes him a lot less scary. It's the guy from Watchmen...the guy that had the ink blot. His voice sounds comical.

You know, when I saw your image in the OP, I had an inkling for a second that I had seen that shape before. I saw the trailer for the new Nightmare remake and it didn't connect until I say your picture of the finished glove.
As a fan of the movie and watching it when as a kid when the original came out - that's some nice work indeed.
Can we see a pic of the palm side of the glove?

That was also my impression, it may turn out to be decent though.

hi all, i just purchased a set of ameriware from costco. i was looking for reviews on this brand and have found some limited information. My husband says the knives have a funky design to them and that they're already dull looking. One of them is already pitted and rusty and i just bought them yesterday. I will be returning them to costco ASAP.

That looks so cool! It's one of those unique items that you always wonder about and see online. Great work auzorann!

Hi, Welcome to BF. Sorry to hear about your troubles. If you start a new thread I am sure someone will chime in and be of great assistance to you.

i've found a knife that's similar and could be used. i have no information at all on it though.
