Hi all. I am very fond of the traditional, bone handle slip joints, in various styles, and i know Case makes an OK knife for the $, but, im looking for much higher quality than Case offers, and i have recently seen some VERY fine SJ knives on the net, however, the REALLY nice ones are made by custom makers and cost a fortune, often near $1,000. Is there anybody that makes a bone/stag handle SJ that rivals the quality of a well made custom, but without the custom price. Im thinking maybe $200. Any info, and especially any links would be appreciated. Thanks!

Wally Watts of Texas makes slipjoints in the $200 range. If I recall correctly, I got this one from him for $250 or under a couple years back.

My brother Blues named a good one.

Another who I would consider would be Jim Ragsdale. His run 200 and below as a rule. He had a nice black lip pearl trapper at Blade for 200 that was pretty tempting and the bone ones were a little less.

Here is another you will not be disappointed with. He is in
your home state also.

Edited to add: Go to Folders and click on Folders/Autos $0 - $300. Check out knife number 11. There are a couple of others you might want to check out as well.

Chris Crawford! He is lurks around in the traditional folders forum. I don't have his website offhand but his folders look great and they aren't extraordinarily expensive either.
Have fun,
Matt

Tony Huffman is a member of BladeForums and goes by the user name of Shotgunone. Here is a picture of one of his knives that sells in the price range that you are looking at.

I highly reccomend Gary Crowder. I picked this one up from Gary about a year ago at the Tulsa gun show. I think it was around $150-175. Outstanding knife.

I guess it's not working, I'll try and fix it later.

Thanks to all of you for leading me in the right direction. With your help, i have several makers to look into, and more than one of your makers and knife pics appeals to, and impresses me. Im SUPPOSED to be coming into a little extra $ soon, and, if so, guess where its going. :D Ahhhh, the truly bottomless pit of custom knives... :)

I am going to second Jeremy on the Crowder slip joints. I have a small trapper with polished black paper micarta that is absolutely beautiful. My wife even played with it, and that is totally abnormal for her!!! Big D1

Jeremy! What the heck are you doing with a slip-joint folder:D
Wonders never cease around here :D :D :D  :)

Just wanted to second Tony Huffman .

My wharnie trapper by Tony. Buy now, his prices won't be this reasonable forever.
