Howdy all,

Jus thought I'd implore upon the infinite wisdom of the folksy to help me in my latest quest.. I'm looking for recommendations on a slippy pattern. I'm looking for something that loosely meets the following requirements:

-carbon steel blades

-2 blades 1 large (pref clip point) & 1 (smaller preferably pen)

-small enough for edc so that the small blade can be utilized for every day tasks in a world of knife fearing people

-Large enough that the large blade can be used for small game duty and basic outdoorsy whittling and chores

-fairly available so that it doesn't break the bank, and so that I can replace it should something bad happens..

any help would be great. Thanks. and "May the Folksy be with you all"

Sounds like you are looking for a Barlow. It's kinda hard to find Barlows in carbon, though. I don't think Case has made any since 1981 or so. Let me poke around and see what I can find.

Edit: Actually, there are more out there than I thought. It looks like Boker, Great Eastern, and Russell are all making carbon steel barlows now. And Case has a damascus & stag version if you're willing to drop the cash. The Great Eastern barlows look very nice- except the smaller blade isn't strictly a pen blade.

The Boker model looks nice, and it's cheaper too.

I think I like the Russell version the best. Hmm. I might pick one of these up.

Thanks for the speedy reply, I think boker still makes a carbon barlows...How do barlow rate in regards to durability? Thanks.

How about a Queen dogleg jack pattern? It seems to fit all your needs. D2 steel....1 clip and 1 pen blade. Easy to come by with the Birdseye Maple handles. I carry a cocobolo handled one frequently. You can find them for around $50.

Also very nice... Looks like I have some research to do. Thanks for the help so far.. Keep 'em coming.

As my swifter forumites have said, a Texas Jack. Why?It not only fits your bill but it is authentic,useful,well-made and inexpensive. What more can you want???

Case's Texas jack is awesome! I carried one most of last winter, dressed and skinned deer, racoons, squirrels, and pan fish with it, not to mention trout in the spring. It peels apples, and oppens packages well too, and is nice enough for special occasions. Joe
