Hello!
I have a one year anniversary coming up and when I asked him what he'd like, he said a knife. Well, I come from a beach community in CA and was raised as a city girl so I have no where to even start! He wants a knife that he can keep, and I guess be sorta like a "prized possession" that he won't be afraid to use because it is too nice. This being said, I also want it to look like a present I gave him, so I'd like it to be "pretty" (for lack of a better word) lol. The only specifications he gave me was that he wants it to be a fixed blade, with a sheath, and no more than $300.
Can anyone point me in a direction where I could find something for him since I'm at a complete loss! lol
I would GREATLY appreciate any help I could get!
Thank you!

P.S
My idea of "pretty" for a knife would be a handle that's (mostly) white if it's bone or horn or antler, pearl, just basically anything that's not all metal and TOO masculine but manly enough if that makes any sense...

And my top price is around $300, not $200 like the title says! oops!

Would you happen to live near Southcoast Plaza in Newport beach? There's a place called Plaza Cutlery that you might want to check out, the place is pretty epic. The guys there will find the perfect knife for you.

Custom would be a great option. There are plenty of fellas on here who could make you something really special for that budget.

You might browse around the For Sale by Maker forum and get an idea of what is available.

There's some really classy wood that you might find pretty. Desert Ironwood is always popular. I'm partial to amboyna burl, maple burl, and california redwood burl. Also koa. Check out www.burlsource.us if you'd like to see what those look like.

-edit- Also, Bark River has some classy looking stuff in your price range. I dunno if my favorite BRKT seller is a member, so you'll have to shoot me a PM or email if you want any suggestions in that realm. But if you want unique, custom is the way to go IMO.

You can look at Bass Pro Shop's online store. They sell Buck 119s with smooth bone handles.

Or you can get him a large Becker. Beckers are basically clean slates on which you can perform any sort of modification you can think of. I took the black coating off my Bk7, and put a nice patina on it. I'll get some wooden handle-slabs for it too, if they show up in the Exchange for cheap. Beckers are really tough too. He would love one. Regards.

Go look at the DPx Gear H.E.F.T 4 Woodsman if you are looking for something nice that is under 300 but also check out the Strider DB I think they are just at 300 dollars but they are more of a military/tactical style of knife. Last just take a look at some Spyderco fixed blades.
