Having posted about this topic in the Custom Knives and Blade dicussion forum I figured this was the other place where i should get some good recommendations. What good books on bowies should I get. I will be picking up a copy of Bill Bagwell's, Bowies, Big Knives and Battle Blades, but would like some nice hard cover books with lots of pictures. I would also like the books to cover the history of bowies as well. This a topic that I know quite a bit about already, but I sure would like to learn more.

Thanks.

Hi,

1) The Antique Bowie Book- I once got to page through a copy of this wonderful book. It's the basis for many of the pictures in Blade. The only major problems are price & availablity. I do remember Atlanta Cultery had a few remainders a bit back.

2) The auction catalog of William R. Williamson.

3) The Robert Berryman & Chas (Something I can't remember) auction catalog.

A lot of the Bowies featured in these catalog's were in the ABB, so it might be a cheap fix till you find a copy of the ABB.

4) Levine's KnifeMakers Of Old San Francisco.

5) D.E. Henry's Collins Bowie's & Machetes- Not really a Bowie book per se:), but an interesting book on the tool company, and a few long chapters on it's Bowie's.

HTH:D:).

Well Bob, you are the second person to highly recommend The Antique Bowie Book. I am going to see if this book is available anywhere. Thanks very much for your other recommendations as well.

Hope you have a great 2003.
