I use my knife for everything. while i have an office job, my weekend and after work activities can be anything. so I want to get a knife as if it was a daily work tool as it used to be for me. I started with an assisted opening buck sirus. I thought it was a great knife until i got the Kershaw skyline. and that knife I have been in love with so far. I know see why so many knife lovers seem not to care for but, as these two knifes don't even compare.

however, I use my knife daily and it doesn't hold an edge very long at all for my liking. during the week isn't too bad, but i can hone it Friday, and then again Friday night. then again Saturday at least once, maybe twice.... and if it's a busy weekend, again Sunday night. and maybe once during week as well.

I like the thin blade of the skyline, the size is perfect, in both length and width of blade and handle. even the blade shape is perfect. so I am looking for a knife very similar in these aspects, but with a better steel. the one thing I like about the buck over the Kershaw is the assisted opening. but it's not a requirement. I have ready good things about s30v and s90v, but didn't know what other options there were.

any advice or suggestions on knifes, or steel in general would be great. trying to stay under $100 if I can but am open to all suggestions. if more is needed I can wait until I have it saved up, as I'm not in a hurry. my one concern with the s90v is whether or not it's tough enough as I have heard it's not quite as tough as s30v. I try not to use a knife for prying, or as a screw driver as I did when I carried the buck, I now have swisschamp for that. but there has been a rare occasion or two that a screw was so small my blade was all that would fit, even too small for the eye-glass screwdrivers. same for prying.

I think you meant to post this in the General Forum.

Add a Leatherman Micra in your off pocket for the small tool selection.

They have premium version of the skyline with S30v.

Or how about a spyderco paramilitary 2.

+1 for the Premium Skyline. It has everything you want in a package you already like. The stonewashed version is $105, black coated blade is $110.

Keep on the look-out for Franken-Skylines. I've gotten 2 with S30V blades with G10 scales, one from here, one from fleabay. Seems the owners wanted CF scales for their other Skylines so they swapped out with a Skyline Premium and then sold off the carcass.

For under $100, the Spyderco Delica and Benchmade Mini Griptilian probably come closest in terms of matching the Skyline in terms of overall size, thickness, and weight.

Delicas come in VG-10 ($64) and ZDP-189 ($94) steel. They come in other colors than black as well.

Mini-Grips come in 154CM ($89) and M390 ($130) steel. And also come in other colors.

The Delica replaced my Skyline, and now the Benchmade 531 has replaced my Delica. Though I'm carrying the Delica while in Cleveland for a few days, I'll have that 531 back in my pocket on Thursday! They're all great, but I'm into the 531 lately. It's even thinner than the Skyline, but doesn't feel cheap like the Mini-Grip does.

As mentioned, the premium Skyline is awesome if you like the design - S30V and carbon fiber scales, and mine actually flips much better than a regular Skyline - probably my best non-bearing flipper. Another knife that I've been loving recently for around $100 is the Kizer 3404A3 - it's a Ti Framelock Flipper that runs S35VN, basically a modified version of S30V that isn't quite as good at holding an edge, but much easier to maintain and I believe is a bit tougher.

EDIT: I just found out that the premium Skyline is going to be on sale at some point this week for 89.99.
