I have an older slipjoint that has celluloid scales on it. I don't want this one "corrupting" the rest of my knives so I'm going to put new scales on it.

Problem is the pins holding it together are so well blended that for the life of me I can't find them. I don't want to beat on the knife or pry the bolsters to try and expose them for fear of damaging the frame. Any thoughts on how I could expose them otherwise?

I've had luck in the past just hitting the bolster with the buffer but not with this one.

Thanks!

Sorry for not being more clear, the pins I cannot see are in the NS bolsters.

Not worried about collectability since I really don't collect, I'd rather put it to use ;)

Thanks for the advice guys.

The match didn't help, but I also didn't use it long. Celluloid is almost explosive in nature so I didn't let it get too hot.

Didn't have a chance to try the vinegar because I was able to coax it a little by prying on the frame which exposed the pins. Luckily I was able to do it without damaging the knife.

You already figured it out.Slip an xacto blade under the bolster (from the scale side if possible) and the pin location will show up as a circle.
