I was just given a Putnum carving knife. The antler has a threaded piece of metal in a hole and there was a threaded piece welded onto the knife and then a female nut fastened the two together. The threaded rod in the antler broke off in the threaded nut and I need to know how to get the piece of metal out of the antler so I can replace it with another.
It seems a bit old to be epoxy, is it hide glue or is it just threaded into the antler. It is broken off so far down that it is almost impossible to get anything around it to exert force. I was thinking of putting it in warm water over night and see if it would soften up.
