Hello everybody !

bowie.jpg

My father give me a knife to restore, it is the first knife which it received in his youth,
when it was in the scouts... (1950-1960?)

I think to repair and of repolish the blade and of remake the handle with blackwood.
On the other hand I do not know how to make for the guard...

I can probably use a large piece of brass and "carve" the guard, but I wondered whether
there are not other solutions? (I dont have mill or lathe) Is this possible to fold
small plates of brass (1/8") ? Should it be heated to fold it?

Is it possible to weld various parts together without the welding appearing?
(does bronze welding appears on brass?)

Thank you for your advices and suggestions!

I was going to tell him some ideas I was coming up with for re-handling a Bowie. I too have recently posted questions about this.

That link you provided is real cool. Bruce Evens can really do a Bowie! You helped me too in my little project.

The "making a half penny quillion guard" tutorial are exactly
what I search...

But I wonder if I can make the same thing with brass?
Brass seem to be more breakable than steel?

Alain, sorry, that is something I did not take into account.
I don't know if you can bend brass like that. If it turns out you can't, and you really want brass, get a thick enough piece of barstock, and do it by stock removal. It probably wouldn't be that hard.
