I boutght this Gerber dagger (simiar to the Guardian, but nicer with a leather sheath. Only problem was it was missin about 1/2" of the tip. I've tried sharpening it on a WorkSharp with ok success, but it still doesn't have the needle sharp point it should. Any ideas, or anyone want to take on the task for a reasonable fee? (out of work, so affordable would be great.)

Thanks in advance.

Jim

Yikes! I'd suggest a coarse bench stone, and elbow grease to straighten that out.. If it was mine, I'd just lay each side of the tip on a stone 1 at a time, and work it hard back and forth until the 2 edges flattened out and meet at the tip.. after the tip is pointy I'd carefully blend the 2 flat shoulders /\ back into 2 gradual curves that meet at the tip and then sharpen the whole blade... Quite a bit of steel needs to come off that tip I hope this makes sense. good luck

Shoot me an e-mail. If you cover the cost of shipping, I would be happy to restore the tip for you.

If you are using the Worksharp knife and tool sharpener, you will get that rounding of the tip from the "give" in the belt. If that is what caused it, don't pull the tip all the way through the sharpener on your strokes. Try using it without the guide and down towards the bottom of the belt, slowly and carefully to re-grind the tip back into shape. Use the 80 grit belt until you get it where you want it. I have one that I use, and have re-ground some 1/3 serrated blades into straight blades with it successfully freehanded at the location mentioned. (Stainless kitchen knives by the way) Great little tool if used carefully and slowly to achieve what you are trying to do with it, knowing its limitations. YMMV. Good luck.

Hey, Jim,
Just checking if you got my e-mails. I'm not sure if I should be watching my mailbox or not.

Thanks,
Ken
