Help! Grinding Ques about curves

Ok, I can grind straight but as soon as there's a curve, I screw it up. I tried copying one of the knives off bladerigger.com.

No luck what so ever. My recurve on the belly came out flat and the tip was trash. Any tips on grinding this blade? If someone could kind of write what they look for when grinding curved areas, it may help alot.

I'm using a Craftman 2 X 42 in belt grinder with a 6" flat plate. Motor is only 2/3 hp but it runs way fast at 4400 fpm (3650 rpm). I know it's to fast, so I was thinking of starting with a 100 grit belt instead of a 50 to slow down on the cutting. I can grind straight on the belt, but the grind comes out more convex than if I use the disk. If I use the platten on the belt, I get chatter. And I can't try this blade on the 6" disk b/c the disk is to small.

Advice anyone?

Thanks

Bryan

Recurves are best ground on a contact wheel (narrower the better), not a flat platen. It can be done but try using the edge of the belt to shape it , not the flat. If nothing else use a file to get the bevels set the go to sandpaper backed with wood .
