Help! Hard choice BM or PH

Ok, I'm a camper (when ever possible) and use my Beckers
to cut down, limb, Etc trees at home.
I've got a BK1, BK2, BK7 and a BK6.

I'm looking at getting my first Busse to try to replace all
or most of my Beckers.

Ok, So here are my ideas:

1, Buy a Paul's Hatchet CG and keep the BK6 (Patrol Machete).
This gives me a nice smaller lighter weight but solid blade
(PH) for tight work, and heavy choping and prying.
The BK6 gives me reach and speed and since it would be on my
pack (not me) takes a load of me when I'm not traveling.
Question: If I lose or break my BK6, Will the PH be good
enough for survival? Have you ever just taken the PH camping
(No other blade)?

2, Buy a Battle Mistress E (And just carry that)
Question: How close in the BM to being as good a chopper as the PH.
How hard is it to do close work with the BM?
9" seems to short to not have a machete, So If I was going to keep
carring the BK6 doesn't the PH make more since?

3, Buy both! Sell the Beckers
Same question as above can the BM really clear the road comfortable.
(I can only buy one at a time, So if nothing else which would you
buy first PH or BM)

Thanks :D

I suggest the Steel Heart. It is large enough to handle chopping and prying, yet still able to handle all of the delicate jobs. By going with this one blade you could save both money and weight, rather than going with a combonation of two.

Go with the Battle Mistress if you are planning on chopping. The Steel Heart is a great all around blade, but not for chopping. It will do it, but for me, a 7 or 7.5 inch knife is too small. The extra couple of inches in the BM make a huge difference in chopping ability - again for me, YMMV.

I like both of these blades quite a bit, and you really need to analyze your needs for this. If you only do occasional chopping, then the field is open. I really like the design of these blades, especially the generous choil. It allows me to choke up quite a bit. I had to break down and buy some weight lifting gloves for heavy chopping - that cures the blisters for me. Bicycle gloves would work also, they have "cush" in the right places.

Don't get rid of your Beckers, they're good knives too!

Go with the BM as a big badass chopper-do everything-indestructo blade, and for all the smaller stuff just slip your favorite folder into the pouch on the front of the sheath. Bada bing, bada boom - You're covered!

Not to steer you away from the BM, but you may want to check out the Steel Heart too. It is hard to beat as a large camp blade. When I go camping I bring a Steel Heart, a Rinaldi LEO, a SAK tinker, and a Sere 2K.

I'll vote for the Steel Heart too!

It can chop just as well as the PH and close up work is no problem either:)

You can make the BM more machete like with the use of a laynard which allows a grip way back on the handle, and thus gives you are ~12" blade, which is a short machete.

Using the BM for close up work is highly dependent on your hand and wrist strength as a major problem is dealing with all the mass as compared to a small knife. If this is a major problem then just work with it as often as you can and build up your strength.
