It's been a couple years since i've made a knife, but recently I set uo shop in my garage and found some O1 I had on hand and made my first knife in a couple years. The problem is, I can't remember the hardening temp, soak time, or tempering temp. for O1. I tried running a search, and I checked the stickies, but got no definate answers. If anyone could help me out I would greatly appreciate it.

Austenitize @ 1475 with a 10 minute soak. Quench in a slow oil. Start your temper at 400 and work up to the hardness you want.

This might help too. Look through Kevin's site. It has tons of info on heat treating and more.

Anyone have any issues with O1 air hardening from normalizing? I was having trouble cutting with my bandsaw after normalizing, however when I let it cool by turning off the forge and letting it cool in there it was fine. This is just for rough forging, I will use my kiln for the final thermal cycling and hardening.
