HELP! How do I post photos w/ads?

Hello All,
I have been a reader of this site for a long time, but I am new to selling here. I need to liquidate my collection, so I took the Gold membership.

I posted my first ad, but could not figure out how to include a photo. I tried the FAQ section, but that did not help me. I also sent a "contact us" message, but I have not yet heard back.

I would appreciate any help anyone can offer.

Thanks in advance.

Hit Post Reply. See the paper clip incon in the tool bar above when you are typing your post. Just like your email program, it is to attach an image. Hit browse, them find the picture on your hard drive and select it. Hope this helps

Thanks, Aloha,
Now I see the "clip". It's that tiny little icon next to the smiley face. I was looking for it, but it is so small, I did not recognize it. Old eyes, I guess!

If your pictures are ready to go and hosted, just post, and click on the little symbol that looks like a mountain, and copy and paste the web site link in there.

Hawaiian and Samhain 73,
I tried (I think) what you guys suggested, but I still can't get it to work When I click on the "attach" paper clip", I get a message "error on page". The "mountain" icon asks for the URL of the photos, which are in "my documents". I'm lost.

Try it again, please, and paste in the error message you get.

Cougar Allen,
Thanks for trying to help, but I'm not sure what the "it" is that you want me to try again. As for the "error on page" message, it shows up in the narrow "bar" below the screen I am using. I don't see any way to send it to you, but that's the whole message.

If you can, try to walk me through posting an ad with a photo, from scratch. Then, how do I add a photo to the ad I already have posted? The photos are in "my documents" file.

I attach digital photos to my regular e-mail all the time and never have a problem. This is a new one for me.

FYI, I notice that "HTML code is off" shows at the bottom of the reply page, below the "posting rules". Is that a problem.

Thanks again,
Mikey

Hmmmmm. THe paper clip and the button below that, that says 'Manage attachments' bring up a separate window that has another set of buttons to browse and insert images, as well as the size restrictions it allows.

Unless you get that second window to open, you will need to insert them from another URL hosted site (an outside webserver, NOT your harddrive.) That's what the 'mountain' icon asks for.

Windows?

Yep, SharpByCoop, I have Windows XP Home Edition.
I'll' take some more photos and try a new ad for another knife.

Thanks,
Mikey

Hmm ... make sure javascript is enabled, and if you're running a popup ad blocker put www.bladeforums.com in your trusted zone. (Don't worry, we don't have popup ads. We don't have banner ads either.)

When you click on the "Manage Attachments" button down below where you type your post a little window will pop up. Click on the "browse" button and you'll find yourself browsing your computer for the picture you want to attach.

I'll get a photo of another knife tomorrow (I hope) and start a new ad from scratch. Thanks for your patience.

You can try a test post in this thread, with any picture you happen to have on your hard drive.

Cougar,
Nope, it won't work.
I clicked on "post Reply", then once the reply form came up, I clicked on the attach (paperclip) and it gave me the usual "error on page" message. I am really getting discouraged.

Any more ideas.
Mikey

I don't understand why your system gives you an "error on page" message. It works for me, and apparently for everyone else.... What browser are you using? Have you updated it lately? Even if you have updated it recently you might try reinstalling it, and you might try using a different browser, too.

I GOT IT! Or, I should say, my son figured out the problem. I'm only posting this to let anyone who is interested know what the problem was.

My EarthLink pop-up blocker would not let me attach photos until I enabled the BladeForums web site. Until then, it was blocking any attempt to do attachments.

My thanks to all of you who tried to help. Ultimately, that's what led us to the solution.
