Hey all, can any one walk me through posting pics. I want to move a couple knives so I can pick up a seax. I am a rank amateur at computers. I can work this site, ebay and yahoo email and search funtions. That is about it. My friend lent me a digital camera, I took some photos and he gave me a disk with them on it. I have no clue what to do from there. You are going to have to be real basic and use no tech speak in your directions.

I see youse gots a gold membership. It should be easier than what I have to do. However, since I don't have such posting options the way I post is a little more difficult. Someone with such posting rights should be able to assist in this.

The way I do mine is with the couple of megs of webspace that the internet service provider throws in as part of the package. I have to upload the image to the webspace and then link the image in the text message. The little yellow mountain-like icon at the top allows you to link the pic...

I reckon the hard part is figurin' how to put the pic into the webspace but that would probably vary by your isp. So... in short I'm no help at all. :)

Since you are a gold member you can "attach" pictures to a thread. They have to be under 100k in size (I think)
When you post a thread, look down under the box where you type in text, for
"Manage Attachments". Click on that.

This pops up a window. Click on the Browse button, and go to the disk where your pictures are stored. Double click on the pic you want to attach, then click the "Uload" button. Do it again for each pic you want to post on that thread. Then click "Close this window"
They will show up in your post.

Once you do it once, it's easy.

Steve

BTW If your pics are larger than 100k you will have to edit them to make them smaller. If you need help with that, send them to me by email, and I'll shrink them down and send them back.
Steve

I will have to have them shrunk. I will email you later Steve, thanks a million.

Windows has MSpaint which is a rather crude program that allows you to crop and or shrink pics.

haven't been able to figure out how to crop with MSPaint....

remember, no wider than 800 pixels, no taller than 600 pixels and no larger than 100,000 Bytes (which is around 97 KB).

If you use a good photo editing software (of if Steve makes it easy on ya....:D) any pic at least 500 pixels wide is plenty and the filesize will be small enough to attach to your post.

just for kicks....you outta try and post an attachment to this thread....try anything....just click on "manage attachments", then browse (find the pic), then "upload" then (when it's finished) close....and "Submit Reply".

To crop in MSpaint...

Use the select tool thingie and draw yer rectangle around the "good stuff".
Click edit, then copy.
Then you click File, then new (do not save the old image)
Then you paste the "good stuff" onto the new "canvas".

Or you can use those grabby things that resize the canvas to cut out edges. Use the mirror features to get to the opposite sides.

me = cheap. :)

Attempt at posting a pic from Dan's advice.

Cool, it worked. Those pics are of the guy who loaned me the camera's brother's custom motorcycle. They happened to be on the same disk as my knife pictures.

nice ride......:D

looks like you got the pic-posting trick down pat!

It a funny thing about bikes...if you live where you can ride them all the time, you never have time to customize them much because you're busy riding. If you live where there's time to work on them, you are stuck with bad weather (see snowplow).

I will eventually live in the exact middle...wherever that is.

Great job posting!

I went to Orange County Choppers retail store the other day, man do I have some nice pics of their work!

If you're trying to get the picture to appear inline with your post, like this...

attachment.php

...the easiest way to do this is to attach your picture(s) to your post and upload them to BF, then click on the name of the picture in the file manager window that appears; when your picture loads, highlight its URL, right click and "Copy," then return to your post and use the "Insert Image" tool. When it asks for the picture's URL, right click and "Paste." It took me more time than I'd like to admit to realize that pictures hosted on BF have an actual URL, and that the "Insert Image" tool recognizes this. For someone who's been on teh intarwebs more or less since 1992, I have a remarkable amount of trouble working with it sometimes.

Okay, so it's actually kind of complicated, but that's the way that I do it. Hopefully someone will come along and show how it can be done with one click of the mouse, thereby improving my internet experience and making me look like a moron simultaneously. :)

(Note that if I was doing this with a picture that I was hosting under my account, the thumbnail would appear at the bottom of the post. Since I'm jacking someone else's picture instead it's not an issue here.)

Irfanview is a free image editor that has pretty much all of the features the average person would need, including resizing and resampling. And did I mention that it's free?
