I have always used hand me downs from my grandpa's, dad, etc. until I bought a Blur s30v blem from Dave and I am now a Kershaw fan...that knife is sweet so I bought this one to EDC but it is the first Kershaw that I have seen without the blade steel type identified on the blade??? All of my knives from them were Case, Buck, etc. so they are nice but I wanted a newer asst opening model. I also bought a ZT 0350SW that I like but it is a little big for EDC so I thought this one would be a little better since it is a little smaller and lighter with the G-10 handles but...

Box says 1570-B but it seems serrated, I just got it today and have not taken off the guard since I am a little scared it may be fake???? The Speedsafe is smooth, the blade is well centered, etc. but I am a newbie so I am a little scared that I may have gotten taken...paid $70 so it wasn't cheap but most that I have seen while researching are around $100.

Any help would be appreciated :)

It's probably 440v based on the price, which is a good deal for the price. Some folks are proud of what they have and think a discontinued knife will bring big bucks. Don't worry, it's the real deal. You did good on snagging it for a reasonable price!!
It always good to do your homework :)

Phew! Thanks so much for the quick reply...how about one more question???

Upon further review, the blade is a little off to the left but not enough to scratch or make a difference in the opening, I have a Kershaw torx tool (I bought that to remove my blur clip) so should I tinker with it and try to get it better centered? Remember, I have never gone into that so I am little afraid of messing it up worse :) If so, how would I go about it? I have read about the screws on ech side of the blade so would I loosen the left one or tighten the right one?

The seller was asking $110 but jumped on my $70 offer so I was surprised but happy and now even happier!

Thanks again for the help :)

Seems real to me, too...it has enough heft and feels "right", not cheap.

Thanks for the reply and encouragement!

S30V according to old threads...and old ads...440V (S60V) would have been awesome for sure though. (they did come in that steel...they are just rare in that steel ftr)

It looks like a Kershaw Avalanche to me which would either be S30v or 440v steel. Oops posted late.

It is an avalanche, I hope, since that is why I bought it.

Seems 440v has been replaced by s60v, which I have seen on these while researching...I like my s30v so either is perfectly cool with me! I am now pretty stoked that I got a pretty good deal on a knife that I wanted.

Thanks for the reply and encouragement!

It is a little off center to the left, not enough to slow down the speedsafe or scratch but should I try to center better? I have a Kershaw torx tool so can one of you let me know?

I have never done that so would I tighten or loosen the left screw or right screw? I may just let it be but it will probably start to bother me now that I noticed it ;)

Thanks guys!

You are correct in thinking to adjust each side of the pivot screws. you would loosen one side and tighten on the opposite side to bring closer to center. Do it in small adjustments so you don't over tighten and get freaked out. It will take a few adjustments to get it closer to center. The other thing I do, and I really don't know if it really helps, is to lightly tap on the pivot screws once you make an adjustment. Hope this helps

Is that pocket clip a little weird to anybody else? I've never seen a Kershaw with a clip like that. I think it's a fake man. Google the images for this knife the clip is wrong on this example. Also, never seen the little blade guard ever on any Kershaw. Here's just one link that shows the clip side well:

Edit: after more research it does appear the earliest Avalanches were 440v and had this style clip. If that is the case you have a pretty cool and sought after knife. Enjoy!

I thought it was an early one but the patent number on the blade makes me wonder and I have seen that blade cover on serrated blades...still have not taken it off because I was waiting on an answer on the centering thing but I am going to mess with it after I get back from the Stars game tonight!

I centered it up last night, worked perfectly as you said @Ajack60, after watching the Stars blow a 2 goal lead in the final 2:30 and then losing 2:10 into the 1st overtime so I needed some "comfort" and the blade is not serrated, the action is smooth, and it is all good again :)

Thanks all for your help, hopefully I will be able to provide some assistance to someone in the future!
