My brother picked this up at a yard sale last week and asked me what I thought. I don't know much about axes but figured I'd ask here.

Pics:

I'm guessing it was used by the USFS at some point but have no idea about age or even the pattern. It weighs 3.5# but I didn't take the measurements. Probably about a 4" edge and around 7" poll to edge.

Thanks for any help y'all can give me.

USOO says nothing to me but then I'm a Canuck anyway. Looks to be still in good shape and imminently useful. 3 1/2- 4 pounders are not weekend warrior nor bushwhacking heads though.

Woodings- Verona Im not sure what the numbers signify. I put one together a while back.

The 00 must mean it was made in 2000.

I have a similar Woodings-Verona that says US 95.

The local hardware store had Ames hatchets fairly recently (that are probably made at the former Woodings-Verona factory in Falls City, Nebraska) that were marked US 11 or US 12

Thanks Steve & A V. I've never heard of Woodings Verona but I'll pass it on to my brother. Maybe he'll invest the time to bring her back to life.

Gotta hand it to you guys! Why Google around for information on axe heads when you can post here and get some fast and solid answers.

The head looks a lot like my Ames True Temper 3 1/2 pound ax. The only difference is that the markings are upside down from mine.

Monday morning or Friday afternoon production! Maybe the best ones were ID stamped and all the rest just got initials and the year. Just a tongue in cheek guess.
