Hey guys, I nabbed my very first HI kukri today at the DOTD. I bought the 13 inch 17 ounce Pachthar by Vim Kami. This is Greek to me, I havnt seen this one on the site either. Any enlightenment would be awesome. Thank you!

I don't know much more than the fairly obvious here, the Pachthars seem pointier than most khuks, on the "small" side, and have a unique scabbard. A search for "Pachthar" on this forum brought up a bunch of results, mostly DOTDs. Here's an early reference:

The HI knives are mailed to customers from Reno, including the DOTDs. Don't know for sure about the warranty question, I think the reduced-price "blems" don't have the same full warranty.

Also, does the warranty apply to DOTD buys? Do they come directly through HI?

Himalayan Imports Limited Lifetime Warranty said:
All other models made by Himalayan Imports should be considered for General Use only and, while still covered under our LIMITED WARRANTY, may not be covered if the product has not been used within the guidelines stated above, especially in cases deemed to have been caused by carelessness or abuse. All Warranties are at the Discretion of Himalayan Imports, Its Owners and Staff.

DOTD (Deal of the Day) Sales. Any Item listed for sale as a "Blem" or blemished item is a Final Sale with no warranties, expressed or Implied. Since most of these blem items are sold because of defects in handle material, the blade may still be covered under the warranty at the discretion of Himalayan Imports. All other DOTD sales are discounted items. Defects known to Himalayan Imports will be disclosed to the buyer. Warranty coverage will be at the discretion of Himalayan Imports.

The Pachthar khukuri is a general use khukuri. Not warranted for chopping wood.
Yours is a discounted item and not a blem and is fully warranted.
If it were a blem because of the handle, the handle would not be warranted, but the blade would be.
If it were blemmed because of a blade defect, it is sold "as is' with no warranty, expressed or implied.
All warrantys are to the original purchaser and are non-transferrable. All warrantys are directly from H.I......specifically Auntie Yangdu and she is the one to contact for any product issue.

So what is a "general use" kukri used for? I was hoping to chop with it. Thanks for the info, it helped a lot.

cfoster2003 if this is the one you picked up;
13 inch 17 ounce Pachthar by Vim Kami. Satisal wood handle. Wooden sccabbard. Yours for $80. *SOLD* size wise its on par with a 12" Ang Khola not something your going to go whack a tree down with but for light brush and bushcraft stuff it should be perfect. My 12" AK is a great little knife but for chopping its bigger kin come out to play. If you want a be all end all Armageddon chopper look for a bigger Chiruwa Ang Khola or CAK in the 18~20" Range
