Help! I got to fondle Beckers at the local store!! (plural!)

This past weekend I took the kiddo to the local hunt shop to practice launching pointy sticks, and on the way out noticed that they now sell KaBars and Beckers!! They had a BK-11 (already own and love), a 15, and a 7. I LOVE the 15, although I'm not certain about that epoxy finish-it seemed kind of rough compared to the finish on my 11 and on the 7.

The 7 was much bigger than I had imagined from the photos, not too large, but it could definitely replace my shovel and axe when camping, and I have a hard time imagining carrying it while on the job nor while on a long distance hike. It seems like it would be more at home in my truck's center console or tool box.

SOoo, as I get ready to deploy overseas (again!), I am thinking the 7 would be a good welcome home present to myself later, and am trying to decide if I NEED  the 15 prior to leaving...it's not a need, I already carry about 7-8 blades of various size and type (Becker Necker, CRKT, SAK, leatherman, Tekna boot, rescue tool, etc) on me when on the job, but dang that 15 is nice!

Talk me out of it, please! :(

Also: What do you carry in the outisde pocket of the sheath? It was too small for my Altoid box, but it looks too big for a sharpening stone...suggestions?

Sorry for the long rambling post, thanks for the help!

The 15 is a phenomenal knife. It doesn't seem small, by any means, but I probably wouldn't dig or chop with it.

I like my 7 a lot, but if I were to choose a large Becker to replace a shovel and axe, it'd be the BK9 for sure.

Help? What, you need a hand carrying all of 'em out to your car? :D

Talk you out of it? Sorry my friend. You've come to the wrong place for that.
Buy both. Problem solved. You won't have to worry about it after that.
I like my new BK-7. But that 5 and 15 have really been calling my name lately. Yep I need a 5.

I would not recommend using it as a shovel, keep a shovel around for that. We just had a member snap their blade using it for digging and prying. I'm not going to link the thread because I believe it got locked and I don't want to resurrect an old ghost. It is also not covered by the warranty, though they may or may not replace it anyways.

I saw that thread - took me a few days to recover from the sight of a snapped-in-two Becker. :nightmare:

i was thinking in terms of a survival situation, being applied as a shovel/prybar, certinly not around the house nor when I am within reach of my truck, which would have all of the above tools stowed and included in my kit. The 7 is definitely hefty, and I am convinced it would take a great amount of force to break that substantial blade.

That said, I like mrn8's suggestion to go even bigger, with the BK9...after all, if yer gonna go big...

Having slept on it, I think the 15 has my name on it and needs to go with me the next time I "happen" to be going by that store (tomorrow). ;)

Thanks for the link to tweener pouch contents, Thrillbilly, that has me thinking...
