I droped my knife today...now the tip of blade is F'D how can I get the tip back with a Sharpmaker??

Depending on the make of the knife you can send it back to the manufacturer and they will regrind it for you.

Other than that, I dont own a sharpmaker yet, so I cant tell you.:o

Sharpmakers aren't well known for making the tip better, if anything, they are notorious for rounding off a tip. You are going to need to grind a lot of metal to get to the tip, depending on how much is broken. I would recommend you follow Samurai Dave's advise and send it back to the manufacturer, as they will do the best job. If you are determined to fix it yourself, I recommend a good quality coarse diamond bench stone like DMT blue, and working to a finer finish on smoother stones.

Nicky that sux dude! Have you tried looking in the yellow pages to see if there is a knife maker in your area? Give him/her a call, maybe they could help.

That's what CRKT told me to do...I could try something myself. I mean it's only a columbia river! lol

Go to your local hardware store and buy a course stone file ($5), the kind used for sharpening lawn mower blades. Use this to file the tip of your knife sharp again and put the edge back on it. Then use your Sharpmaker to put the final edge on.

CRKT seems to have a if you break the tip oh well.... attitude. From what I gather from their warranty. That said, for the money they are great. Well, I've never bought one but got several for free:D

I will repair it as much as possible, Provided you pay shipping. If your interested shoot me an email.

So I take it CRKT doesn't offer a sharpening service huh? That speaks a whole lot about that company. I guess that saves me some dough in the future though.

Medic1210,

Don't be too hasty in writing off CRKT.

nicky, id youa skt CRKT to sharpen your knife, or to regrind the knife? I don't know of any production companies that will regrind a knife under warrantee. Knives are ground before heat treatment. To regrind an already heat treated knife would take careful measures by hand- something that won't come with any knife sold at production prices. If you want to regrind the tip yourself, take Steve's advice. And try not to drop your knife on the floor.
