Im new to tactical knives,,Ive carried traditional knives most of my life, four months agoI started buying tac's and watching this forum, I bought a spyderco stretch, plain edge vg10, a sog tac auto and topo meridian, and a kershaw avalanche s30. Im very impressed with them all, Im looking for a benchmade to round out my rotation of edc knives, I tested a mini grip but didn't like the feel..can anyone help me choose a benchmade, Im looking for around 3" blade and 4" closed give or take a little. Plain edge, axis or lock back type, and nice weight and feel..thanks tom c

The full size grip with plain edge is great. You have to get over the hollow sounding handle, or maybe upgrade to the Ritter grip, but it still is a great knife. I hear alot of good things about the 710 as well, but do not have one, nor handled one either. The Axis lock is great.

Have a look around thier website. I think that'll answer your questions about classes.
The 710 is a must in my opinion. I also really like the HK 14205 alot!!!!
Here is my Benchmades excluding a Lum 760 I recently purchased. Note the Cabelas D2 Grip. I guess I'd strongly endorse any of these knives pictured:

the Osbourne is a great EDC.

If only the 42 was legal here....The 32 actually is, but it's too small to be an EDC.

I FOUND THIS ON THE WEB FOR 179.00 , IT LOOKS GOOD,, ANY ADVICE?..Benchmade 950 Rift, Carbon Fiber Scales, Plain EDGE REVERSE TANTO, 154CM LIMITED TO 200

Another one for the 14205. Smokes them all. Simply can't get enough of this knife or it's little 14210 brother.

You'd be hard pressed to find a better BM for edc than the 94x series. You will also be hard pressed to find anyone with a negative opinion of these knives. It's one of the smoothest knives I own, carries almost invisible in pocket, slim, lightweight, axis lock- there are other good choices but you'll eventually end up with one anyway :)

The rift is a big honkin knife. It is hard to tell that from pictures. I thought you wanted something around 3" blade? There is a pic here near a mini-grip and a few other knives.

If you are trying Benchmade you really owe it to yourself to give the axis lock a try. At the 3" size try the blue class 707 or 960 if you don't like the mini-grip. I haven't tried the black class axis knives or the HK versions.

If you are not against assisted opening I would suggest a mini barrage. I edc it and love it. The handles can feel a little "cheap" but besides that its a tank of a knife

Thanks for all the great advice,, I ordered the 950 rift today, Its a little bigger than Im used to, but it rounds out my collection nicely..size wise and steel wise...now I'll have 4 slightly different sizes, 4 steels, s30,vg10,aus8, and now 154cm. plus 4 manufactures, sog, spyderco, kershaw and now benchmade..my final decision was made by the weight..
4.8 oz. is substantial. it must be built like a tank..benchmade strikes me as a hefty beefy usa type of knife...my first should be typical benchmade. thanks again,,I'll give a review when I recieve it...IN case anyones interested, I got a great deal at hardware sales inc. 126.00 shipped..for a 950, g10 154cm black handle black blade.

Great choice. The Rift is my favorite knife period. One has been in my pocket everyday for the last few years. To me it is the perfect size and fits my hand well plus they pack a ton of blade into it so you get a blade length that is normally in a bigger knife.
