I have a Kershaw Junkyard Dog folder that a buddy gave me back around 2008. I just came across it and I’ve never used it or carried it, but I’m curious about it. I can’t tell what kind of steel it has. It says ”OCT 07“ on the blade, and a “1725“. However, it does not have the seam line on the blade where 2 steels were melded together like the “saw tooth” or “puzzle pattern“ that I’ve seen. I know a few different steels were used in the Junkyard Dog models. I reall want to know what the blade steel is mostly, but the model name would be great too. Anyone have an idea?

There's a bunch of different junkyard dogs. I have several of them including the one that you have. Ken is correct it is a Sandvik steel.

Pure guess...Junkyard Dog II in Sandvik 14C28. I could be wrong.
probably 13C26 if "oct 07" on the blade is the manufacturing date.

Here is Thomas posting pics in SEP 08 of the upcoming first knife in 14C28 (Random Leek)

I actually have the same knife of the same year. I like the Junkyard Dog II. It's a great example of what I really liked about Kershaw back in that timeframe. I bought it for $70 from Gander Mountain, and it just worked for my needs when I was in the economic knife demographic of the "mid priced user" gravitating toward $50-80 when that would get you domestic Kershaw or Spyderco or the like.

Kershaw should bring those back with a normal pocket clip and tip up carry ; maybe even a ti version too...
