Picked this up on a trade since I like lighters, but cant find anything on the web as to what it is? The person I traded with said it was a WWI era lighter from Germany. Here are some pictures for your reference. It is built very well and feels like a quality item. The words :
Ochs Malhz
Schweisst alles
Rheinalles 151

are written on the side of it and then some markings on the bottom, see pictures. Any info would help. It is made of solid brass. Thanks in advance.

I'm just a novice @ lighters...but...it looks like a WWI German trench lighter.

Looks like a trench lighter, but I have searched and cant find another that looks exactly like this one. All the trench lighters I have seen are built with thin sheet metal. This one is built to last forever its seems. The guy that I traded with had a
$300 price tag on it and was sitting with other very hight-end lighters in the $1000 dollar range. I am trying to find out
who may of manufactured it or an actual age. Doesnt look like a repo, but want to make sure it is not also.

I dunno, most trench lighters don't use fluid at all, just an ember on cotton cord.
Does this one use fluid or no?

yes, unscrew the bottom and there is a cotton material to soak fluid. most trench lighters would have the
cotton cord dipped in gas or kero.

The abbreviation on the bottom "gesetzlich geschützt" means Protected by Law. Like a patent.
"Ochs Malhz schweisst alles" means "Ochs Malhz welds everything".
The bottom line is an incomplete street address. (no city)
Probably a lighter advertising a welding company in Germany.
Just my guess.

Thank Rugger! That's what I was thinking it was an advertisment lighter. Its built very nicely, but given that information I am
not sure this lighter is worth the $300 I was told since I cant identify a manufacture like Dunhill or the sorts. I have look over
every inch of the thing and cant find who made it :( Oh well, it's a nice one, but I think I got taken for a ride.

It's a cool lighter. Is the brand name (on the bottom) TOBAD? Might be worth some research.

TOBAD? :) Now thats a kicker. I'll have to see if there was such a company. Thanks guys for the info, keep it coming if you find any.

Thanks,
Ram

Could also read as:

Ox Malt
All Welded

Not that it means anything either, but I took "all welded" to signify the manufacture and quality of this lighter.

Cheers for the input CWL! Nice to know somebody else is thinking about this thing.
Normally Malt is "Maltz". "Mahl" is (in most common usage) a root word referring to a meal. ex.: "Mahlzeit" = Meal/dinner time. Maltz is also a not-so-uncommon German family surname (perhaps among those once involved in brewing, there were more than a few of those)- with possible/probable variations in spelling.
"All welded" would/should be "alles geschweisst" or simply "geschweisst". But I don't see any obvious welds on the lighter.
The street address "Rheinallee" (Rhein Alley- or more accurately "Lane") possibly refers to an address in a city w/ some approximation to the Rhein River in western Germany.
With the (albeit incomplete) address, it looks to be an advertising item.
Corrections welcome if I'm wrong in my guesstimations.
