It's a double bit, 10 & 1/4 inches bit-to-bit, only marked 'A30' on one side. No other markings.
Thanks for any help.

I've seen some axes like that at the DNR. No maker's stamp. Seemed like decent axes.

I've come across quite a few no name heads stamped with "letter number number" of various combinations. I suspect they were forest service and/or maybe of gov agencies. So far, all those that I have run across seem like decent heads and most likely made in the USA.

Would it help to know there are ridges, two per side, that run from top to bottom of the eye?

I have done web research and think it may be a True Temper..... Where's Double Ott, I hear he's quite the TT collector, maybe he can help me a bit more. Trying to figure out the pic posting. I have lots of pics to post when I get that sorted out.
Maybe I should stop using my phone and start using my computer to post this stuff :cower:

You can head over to a site like imgur.com and either just click+drag the picture onto the site or navigate to the Upload Images section. After you've uploaded it, grab the link (eg. http://i.imgur.com/A2Z7j.jpg) and add
after, directly before/after the link when you post it.

sample pic, if you quote my post it'll show you how the code and picture url is combined.

Hope that helps.

I've seen those ridges in numerous brands of axes - and in several heads which I couldn't identify. But the file has revealed each of them to be quality axes. It's nice to know what you have but it's not a big deal. Don't worry about brand - just enjoy it.

DarkWolf, I don't think you have a Kelly. I don't recall them ever using a number / letter system for their axes. It most likely is not a Kelly forest service axe. All the Kellys that I've seen with a USFS stamp also have the Kelly stamp on them.

As a good friend says...I could be wrong.

As Peg says, put a file to her bits, if shes decent you'll know quickly. Do your restoration work on her and enjoy.

Now where's Operator... he may have more info for you.

Regards, Tom

Thank you, Pia, that does help.
Pegs & Double Ott, thank you for the knowledge pass-along. The file test says she is pretty good, nice hard bits. Now to locate a nice haft clean her up and use her.
Thanks again. DW
