Hi all,

We were over at my FIL house yesterday. At one point he showed me his new Buck folder he got recently. He likes small traditional multi blade folders and seems to replace them every couple/few years. He said the guy at the knife counter told him that he wouldn't be able to buy that model Buck again because it either has been or will be discontinued. When he told me that, I made a point to look at the model number, but then have now forgotten what the model number was. But I think I can describe the knife pretty well.

Traditional looking folder. Pretty small size. 2 blades, that I THINK open opposite each other. I only opened the one (larger, main) blade that had the buck stamp. the other opposite side blade was smaller. The handle was I believe a very dark colored wood or something that looked like wood. There was a medalian on the wood scale with a knife and hammer which must be a newish buck medalian because I didn't recognize it as a buck knife until I opened the blade and saw the stamp.

I THINK that the model number was like 904 or something, but nothing comes up when I look that up online, so I must have remembered that wrong, but I'm really thinking that the last number is a 4.

ok, any help would be great, since he really likes this model knife.

Maybe you could go to Buck's website and find it there.

There's also a way to look at the current catalog at the bottom of their web page.
The first thing I did was go to the website. Didn't see it there, so thought I would ask here. Also, I went to the bottom of the web page and didn't see a link to the catalog. I hate how hard it is to find things sometimes.

J Jeff of the North Some Canoes had the Hammer/Bolt shield also.
The 305 is the smallest.

THANKS! I looked up pics of the 309 and it was definitely either 309 or 305. I should have opened the second, smaller blade, then I would have known for sure. I guess it's whichever of these models was discontinued most recently. I'm kind of leaning towards 309 because I was thinking there was a 9 in the number. (I guess I was just totally wrong about the 4). 309 sounds like it could be right.

But I think the 305 and 309 were discontinued years ago (2019?). And even then, towards the end of the run, only the black ones had the hammer/knife shield. I thought it was a stretch to suggest using a hammer on these little pocket knives.

Must be the one he bought had sat behind the counter for a couple years. The knife he got has the black handle. I guess I assumed it was dark wood, but seems like it probably isn't.

The hammer/knife/bolt shield is a historical icon for Buck dating to the 1940's when Hoyt Buck would demonstrate the toughness of his knives by cutting a bolt on his anvil.
