Went by the local army surplus store and saw these beauties. I took a gamble and negotiated for $120 for all three, I think I paid a fair price for them. I don't know anything about Case knives. These 3 are actually my first purchase. The lockback is made in Germany if it helps any. I would really love to know the materials on the handle of the two tone trapper. The boxes where the trappers came in, weren't original boxes. Any info on these would help, I would like to know more details about the handle material, blade steel, collectible/worth, etc.

Close-up pics of the stampings on all of the blade tangs would be helpful to determine vintage, and it may also reveal some clues about handle materials. I think I see '7254' on the green(ish) trapper; the '7' in the pattern number indicates wood (any one of a variety of different woods) for the handle on that one, though it's hard to say what wood specifically.

You'd probably get a lot more help in the "Bernard Levine's Knife Collecting & Identification" forum.

Three Case knives for $120 seems like a fair deal.

I do remember that Case did have some knives made in Germany at one point.

Please post pictures of the tang markings. Do NOT use a flash when taking the pictures.

I'm going to leave this here for a spell. There are several fellas here who know a lot about Case knives. If you get no responses by tomorrow, we can move the thread then.

The two trappers are pattern 54 trappers. The striped handle looks like an aftermarket job. The lock back looks like it's from the Case Classic period, when Parker owned the brand and had knives made by queen and olbertz in Germany. As mentioned above, the model numbers on the tang will give some clue as to the handle material although I imagine the striped one started life as a 6254 yellow delrin or the brown jigged delrin, whose designation escapes me at the moment.

Wouldn't surprise me if the 'striped' trapper is a Case-made job for an SFO (Special Factory Order). A certain, not-to-be-named Case retailer in Tennesse might've had something to do with that one.

Whether or not that's the 'case' (so to speak), here are a couple pics of what appears to be the same model, from a finished auction listing on the 'bay. The listing describes it as a 'Case Amber / Antique Striped Bone' trapper (6254 SS); tang stamp looks like 2006 vintage:

The lockback was made in the early 2000's by Boker on contract for Case. I'm sure that the German manufacture is indicated on one of the tangs. These are fairly scarce and sought after.
