Can anybody help with the origin of this BATAC. What has me stumped is the coating. I added the sage ASH to show the difference in color. Also the texture is very rough, almost like sandpaper. I believe there is an older and newer snakeskin, what does it look like to you? Could the scales have been added?

This is the first busse that I did not beat the crap out of thirty seconds after I opened the package. I would like to use it but I feel I need more information before I break it in. THANKS

Could it be bama clay? I can't see it too well in your pictures, but here's an example:

Not sure on the snake skin issue, too. It definitely looks like snakeskin, but I heard that the "new batch/old batch" thing wasn't true and that there ever only was one batch of the Micarta made. That statement's supported on the Busse site here.

I believe that is the Tan coating and the slabs look just like all the Snakeskin I've had on the TAC series.

That grainy tan coating also showed up on the ST-56's, so that gives you time window, it wore poorly, often wearing off on the "Busse Tactical Cardboard Sheath"

It wasn't around long.

OK, so the color was released as tan. Was it offered from the BUSSE sites, a ganza or a blade show? When was it available? Were there many? Should I keep it safe or put it to use? I really want to use it but if its something special I may find another for a user.

It is the old tan coating, I hate that stuff.
It gets smoothed out from just the cardboard.

When it gets beat on or sprayed with carb cleaner it gets smoothed out and almost creamy.

It was on BATAC's, SJTAC's, Ruck's, the persian fighterand all kinds of others including the knife above.

Strip it and you will have a cool snake skin or I am sure it would bring a pretty penny as most with that coating are getting more rare

Although the BATAC is one of my very favorites, I don't believe you will find any rare in the CG form. I'd have to say "Use It!", but then, I'd say that of any piece of INFI.

The original tan was a rough sand-like finish, similar to the finish on mil vehicles.

It wore very well, IMHO.

Many earlier models (ergos, Satin Jacks, BA3 sized, then I think the start of the fusions) wore it, then the more recent "Sage" came along, and the old tan was gone.

While the new gives essentially the same colour, I do miss the old tan finish...

Thanks for the replies, I am not interested in making a buck, I'd just hate to take away a piece of history.
But I probably will :)

Sorry. "Busse Combat Knife." The link in my prior post is to the original sale page (as it existed in April 2007), brought to you by the Wayback Machine.

The MO version is fairly rare, IIRC. Sage w/ olive green G-10.

@ FTR-14c... That's a great BATAC combo! Nice score. :) While as others said that it's not rare, just keep in mind that if you decide to use it, and then want to have it recoated, the same tan coating won't be an option. If that ain't an issue with ya...then beat it like ya stole it!

Love the BATAC's, myself...
