So I just picked this up. It's my first Khukuri. I have been looking for one for a while and I couldn't pass this up. I know that it looks a little rough but I think I can clean it up pretty easy. I didn't want to go ahead and do that without advice from this community. The blades were painted black at some point but I can get rid of that pretty easy. I was told that it was awarded by the british army. I was also told that it was awarded in 1980. The blade says "Order Nepal 11 / 80". The plaque says "Ubique" in the center and "The Queens Gurkha Engineers" on the bottom. Any info is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

As this is not an H.I. khukuri, i've moved it to the Cantina.

As for the Khukuri itself.....
I believe these are tourist khukuri made by khukuri house on order from someone and were for export.
If it was awarded the placard at the top has been removed.
Both plaque amd khukuri are common and are still being produced today.

Current pattern of kukri issued to British Gurkhas. Blade marking is ORDEP NEPAL for "Ordnance Depot Nepal" with date of issue.
The higher quality versions of this kukri I have seen, were made by kami employed by the British army themselves working at Dharan army base. They are normally marked "Ordep Nepal" with a date stamp. {Generally from the mid 1980s.} With superior fit & finish, they have a superior feel to the ones marketed today that I have handled.

P.S. - Not so sure I'd be in a hurry to clean off the black paint. May be an interesting part of the blade's history.

Thanks for the info. Does anyone know where I can get some fine tuned information on this? I would like to know what it's worth so I can decide if I want to leave it as is or clean it up and make it a user.

In case anyone wants to know, I paid $30. Got it off craigslist. The couple wanted $50 but I didn't know enough about it so I offered them $30.

I can't tell from your pic whether the presentation plate at the top of the plaque has been removed or merely painted over. If the presentation info is still there you have the basis for further research, but if the plate is missing it will be hard to find out much more. You got a good deal.

It's been removed. I contacted the seller to try to get it. They said they are going to look for it. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Nope. I was talking about the presentation plate. I have the knife sitting here with me right now.
