I picked up a couple DB's the other day. This one has had a few hours in vinegar and it's starting to reveal a maker's stamp. It looks like a sort of fleur-de-lis in a double-ended arrow. Does anyone recognize this stamp?

Here's a close up of the stamp. On the fleur-de-lis one branch curls down and the other branch curls up. The opposite side is stamped with a '4' - I'm assuming the weight.

what I believe your looking at is a Stiletto DB. Your branch curls is an S and on the other end is an O. The S makes up the tang and the grip of the stiletto extends past.

I don't know much on the their history and may have to eat some of my words. My understanding is stiletto started in the gold rush days in California. Stiletto today makes hammers out of titanium and doesn't really have anything to do with the tools of yesteryear other than a name someone bought and resurrected. Hopefully someone with more info will chime in.

found this:

So 'Stiletto' is a True Temper brand?

I see a few Stilettos on ebay that are also stamped 'True Temper'. So are there a pre-True Temper as well as post-True Temper Stilettos? That Stiletto history page says nothing about ever being affiliated with True Temper.

I was really hoping someone else would chime in (c'mon, I know someone know something!) because you know as much about them as I do.

I have a Stiletto DB as well that I would love to know more about. The big difference I see between the yours and mine is that on yours the arrow is the stamp, leaving everything else in relief whereas mine is the opposite. The letters have been stamped into the head and the arrow is made up of a stamped outline. Mine also had a 6 or 9 stamped on the reverse side.

I know... this comment is worthless without a pic... soon.

I picked up a nice hickory handle for that DB yesterday. It has an almost perfect grain. Found it at True Value of all places.

Yeah, yeah, pics will come eventually...............
