Can anyone out there in Buck Land tell me what came in this box. I've never seen another and have searched all the old catalogs on the BCCI website. Cedar box with a sharpening stone mounted against the inside face. It's approximately 14" long by 4" wide and 3" tall. There is no evidence of glue or markings indicating a liner or something was ever in it. The stone has been used obviously.

Damn I literally just saw a photo of one of these the other day. I believe it had a fancy 124 in it. It may not have been original to the knife.

According to an old ad that I discovered, the cedar box was offered to customers who purchased a Buck knife. It was offered in three different sizes.

Take a look.

That looks like it.... "Offer good thru Jan 31 1987" Gives us an age reference.
So, there were 3 different boxes available. It makes it sound like there was a coupon included with your knife that you could send in along with your warranty card and a small shipping fee and BUCK would send you the cedar box to store your knife in. I'm going to have to search to see if I have any boxes in my collection from 1986 that might have the paperwork. The image link is an old magazine ad that resists being copied, I'll see what I can do.

That is a classic example of Buck marketing and advertising. Thru the years before the Internet a company would use items like that to develop mailing and customer lists and brand reconition. That information is and was valuable and Buck had a lot of real classy examples of branding and promotional items. My all time favorite is the 432 tang stamped 112 you could get if you bought 4 new Goodyear tires. Buck even put your initials if you wanted.

Skyler, I've been searching and came up with a picture by EVIL EYE EARL from back in 2011. Looks like what you are describing.
Can't believe the box is original to the knife it is displayed with.

Yep that's it. Doesn't look constructed properly to hold a knife.

DesotoSky, contact EEE, I am sure he will tell you all the details he knows. Your box is better, it doesn't have knot under the Buck name on top. 300

So my take from all this is that I was cheated... a custom 124 should have been included with the box.... :D

DeSotoSky asked me to post a couple picks for you all...hope these help. This coupon came packaged inside a Buck 303 in 1986...

Thanks for posting that Clay. My question is now answered. If anyone has the small or medium box in their collection, please post a picture and the thread will be completed. /Roger
