I received this Thorburn recently. I have no idea what it is. If you could help me identify this model I would be greatly appreciative. Pictures are below.

Andre Thorburn is member of the Knifemakers' Guild of Southern Africa since 1995. Started knifemaking in 1989 and full time knifemaker in 1995 and stay in Bela Bela Limpopo South Africa. His e-mail address is: andrethorburn@gmail.com. The knife is his Model L14 has a 12C27 from Sweden blade with satin finish, Stainless steel bolster - textured and chemically colored and a colored Giraffe bone handle. It was one of his early models - liner lock with teflon shims and the earlier front flippers.

Thank you @Marietjie Thorburn.

The knife is beautiful. It is in mint condition and just been collecting dust until I found it. I am very happy to own it now. Would you think this knife has a particular value? Even with this information, I cannot seem to find a price, or previous sale of a knife like this one.

Thanks so much -

@Caderes44, I can't really say what it's worth now.... In those days, we may have sold it at $450.... Andre will make the same model without IKBS for $530 at this stage. We have moved away from the standard liner locks and only do IKBS now. Glad you're happy with the knife ;-)

Hello Marietjie,

I became the proud owner of an L16 recently. How does the name/numbering system work? Lower number = older design? Are the lower numbers still made? Will there be variations (steel, for example) within the same number or are all L16's (for example) exactly the same?

Where can one see what all the L series knives look like?
