Dear Hogs and Piglets,

could you please tell me more of that couple of shbms? They are unusual having symmetrical edges; and seem to have the early version of crinkle coat; have they got what was known as 'cut to fit' slabs? When were they originally offered for sale by Busse Combat Co? Here is a thread with their pic:

And I have never seen another shbm tan/tan...

All best

Pretty sure that "desert" one is Sage with hand shaped tan canvas micarta, and IIRC, they might have been sold at a Knob Creek show a few years back. Has the newer "BUSSE" logo on them.
Also, I believe that there were a few actual Tan coated SHBM's, but I believe that they were Custom Shop variants, possibly with some serrations. If I'm barking up the right tree, I believe that they are the "Tube SHBM's"...the 1 of 6 group.
Someone with more experience or a better memory might be along shortly to correct me, but as for the 2 in the pic, I'm fairly certain that they are from the Creek, and from some of the, if not THE, last SHBM blanks. :)

Get some brewed, my friend...and take over, willya? I'm off to bed, LOL :D

Many thanks, Jaxx, for such a prompt reply. Especially considering the time difference :)
Now I am off searching for pictures showing the difference between tan and sage (never paid much attention to the latter).

Yes, there were serrated custom shop tan shbms (with black micarta scales), Loupo had one several years ago.
Yes, I was also puzzled by the new type logo...

Agree with Jaxx, those two would be Knob Creek specials; made from (presumably) old knife blanks. That logo has only been used on show knives in the last years.

The tan is like the base coat on the original rucks, pretty abrasive, and the sage is a lot smoother. And the tan strips a LOT more easily

Thanks, that remark on Knob Creek helped to find this, i.e. yet another black one of the same kind:

there's a pic a little down.
But knife hunter was not specific on the date of the KC show. If molletta remembers well, he got the black and sage couple in 2008 from knife hunter.

Definitely two recent ones from the coating and logo on it. Nice handles, as they tried to make a throw back version.

Yes the two in thread above are from KC THREE YEArs ago I think. I know cause they were mine

I sold em to molleta and they still look new:thumbup:

There were some tan/tan versions offered as "tube" knives at Blade back in 2004 or 2005.

In the weeks leading up to Blade that year, through the shop, you bought a tube would contain a "Busse Knife" to be delivered at Blade.

You had no idea what you would receive, just that it would be worth the price or more, maybe much much more...

Everyone was pleasantly (OK, EXTREEEEEMELY) surprised at their scores.

There were some SHBM's in the mix, but I don't remember them being the 1-of-6 version, memory is on the 1-of-300 ones.

Of course, liek Tim Wilson says, "I might be wrong".... ;)

Hope that helps some too.

Dear Hogs and Piglets,

Many thanks to you all for enlightenment; feels good to have turned from a lurker into a registered user :)

So, black/black and sage/tan; hand-shaped micarta slabs; symmetrical edge; molletta says they are somewhat fatter than 0.25" but that must be the coating; originally offered at Knob Creek October 2008. Sage/tan owners: knife hunter, molletta, jankwaw.

I shall now try to spot an earlier tan/tan shbm; likely to be the 1 of 300 version.

All best,
jankwaw

I've never seen that one, but it may not have lasted long enough to make it down to the range. I bought this Custom Shop SHBM in Arctic White at the Fall 2008 Knob Creek, so they must have finished a few leftover blanks:

Agree with Guy and Alex. I believe I saw at least one of these at the Creek.

Eric, thanks, yes all is well. Hope all is well with you. Will be at Blade this year, so I will see you there hopefully.
D

Well. I guess this means I will also come to Blade. Haven't seen the Blue Man for too many years.

Glad to hear all is well with you.

Jamie, see you there.

Busse had lots of blanks left over for warranty work in the event someone actually broke an SHBM by using it as a jackhammer to remove their driveway. But surely no one would ever do that:eek::D:D

These original blanks turn up as customs, one off's, ganza items, show specials etc. there were std, 1/300 blanks, and other blanks. Most of those are probably gone from the shop by 1-2 years ago due mainly to demand. you can age them depending on the handles and bolts/tubes. smooth and slotted are old and you are not likely to see those. Then look at brass tubes, typically that will be the 2002-2004-5ish time frame, steel tubes will be much later or that is how it appeared from what I got. At least that is how it appears, but I could be wrong with the time frame for steel tube transition. Handles, even if they are smooth will be much thicker in the modern made shbm's, and slimmer in the older ones. Not to hard to guess the age of one if you know what to look for.

documenting the variations, would drive you crazy...

just look at the handle variations in this pic
