Hi all, was wondering if anyone recognized this mark on my old machete. I got it about 20 years ago while backpacking with my dad in central Mexico. He saw an old farmer carrying it, offered him twenty bucks, and here we are. Anyhow, does it look familiar to anyone?

It's a copy of the Collins and Co stamp, but the finish work, etc.... are off. My guess is a locally made copy. Collins and some of the large German firms get copied quite a bit, from straight bootlegs to smiths using stamps that are homages, but not exact copies of the older trademarks.

P.S., In case anyone is wondering the hand is too square, stamp too sparse for the time frame they were using green horn handle slabs, the way the fuller was made and blade finish are different from the way Collins did it, pins are a little smaller too.

Here are some typical Collins handles of the era when green horn was used -

It's a gentler transition.

Awesome, thanks guys! I still use this machete heavily and was looking to redo the handle, didn't want to mar up a piece of history.

That's definitely a copy of a Colin's legitimus machete, and you shouldn't have any concerns about rehandling it . Looks like its probably still a decent old machete though, and it has some memories surrounding it too so that makes it even better.
