I purchased these two today from a local thrift-store type place; the owner said he bought them from a soldier who brought them back from Afghanistan.

It appears to be an antique Afghan Khyber sword and a Karud knife, but that's as far as my knowledge goes. Is there anyway to date these?

Once in a while I search for exactly these kind of blades on the unmentionable auction site.
So far I havent come across one which has a handle like your two examples. The blade shapes however can be found quite often. I even got in contact with a blade smith in Delhi, India who makes similar blades from "hardened milled steel" but again different handles.

That's all I know about these which might be less than what you already know.

I'll subscribe to see what the more knowledgeable experts have to say.

Looks very similar to what I brought home from the markets in Kabul.
