Hoping someone has information on this knife or has seen something similar.

My grandfather passed it down to me about 40 years ago. He brought it back from WWII along with a rifle, sword, prayer belt, etc. He called it a harakiri knife at the time.

It has no markings whatsoever, so it may be a one off. The guard and parts of the handle seem to actually be similar to aluminum. The darker part of the handle is some sort of antler.

I'm guessing it's what might be called a theatre knife assuming he actually got it in theatre. The horn if that's what it is would be a bit unusual, but the aluminum guard and spacers along with the plexiglass spacers are fairly standard fare. I don't believe the knife is Japanese. The value is probably pretty nominal in terms of cash.

I was also thinking some kind of Pacific theater, if you can give a bit of where he served during the war, might help, maybe from the Phillipeans. .

My guess is tourist souvenir/decorative knife.

Harakiri knife...LOL.
The knife has nothing to do with anything remotely Japanese.
It looks very Filipino to me.

Thanks! That makes a lot of sense. Not looking to get rid of it, but I do appreciate the info!

Philippine Bowie/Fighting knife with theater knife influence. Handle is buffalo horn and plexiglas.

Edit, more traditional example -

Okay that makes a lot of sense. Everything was suggesting theatre knife but the horn was an anomaly.

Triton said it was likely a theatre knife which makes sense. One of my biggest regrets is that I don't know more of his service. He only ever spoke of the war to me one time from when he was in the pacific theatre involving Japanese soldiers.

This is certainly a Philippines knife. Google will bring up a lot of these with the exact same blade and handle shape.
