help identifying handle insert

Well, I took some scans of a recently acquired piece. Does anybody have a guess as to what kind of wood this is? I originally thought it was desert ironwood.

Over at <a href="http://www.contrib.andrew.cmu.edu/~tsai/balis/pair_bali.jpg">this picture</a>, we can see the handle next to cocobolo. I am not so sure anymore that it isn't cocobolo, although it is a bit darker... but that could just be the stain. Anyway, I'm no woodologist. Anybody have a ideas? :confused::confused:

Thanks for the response. I've changed the gamma (whatever that is) in <a href="http://www.contrib.andrew.cmu.edu/~tsai/balis/bali_insert2.jpg">this pic</a>, maybe it'll help...?
 
I am suspicious that it is cocobolo, that stuff varies so much from one board to the other you can't rule it out. Grain shading is right though.
