help identifying handle insert

Well, I took some scans of a recently acquired piece. Does anybody have a guess as to what kind of wood this is? I originally thought it was desert ironwood.

<a href="http://www.contrib.andrew.cmu.edu/~tsai/balis/bali_insert.jpg">Here is a close scan</a> of the entire bali. I know the scan sort of sucks, but its the best I can do. Hopefully somebody will recognize the wood.

Over at <a href="http://www.contrib.andrew.cmu.edu/~tsai/balis/pair_bali.jpg">this picture</a>, we can see the handle next to cocobolo. I am not so sure anymore that it isn't cocobolo, although it is a bit darker... but that could just be the stain. Anyway, I'm no woodologist. Anybody have a ideas?

My guess is also desert ironwood, the first scan is too dark to tell.

Thanks for the response. I've changed the gamma (whatever that is) in <a href="http://www.contrib.andrew.cmu.edu/~tsai/balis/bali_insert2.jpg">this pic</a>, maybe it'll help...?

I am suspicious that it is cocobolo, that stuff varies so much from one board to the other you can't rule it out. Grain shading is right though.

My guess would be cocobola as well.

I don't think it is Ironwood I cut a lot of it from
logs and the grain pettern don't fit Gib
