Help identifying my 119

I've read around the forums for a while, and I can't quite place my 119.

It has a stag handle, bought on the knife new, not replaced. Never used, but has been handled.

One side of the tang reads "095", and the other side says, in three lines, "Buck Custom U.S.A." The blade has a flawless mirror finish, and the sheath is all leather, but it's more complex than the rest I see on here the most. It has a strap across the front that has "Buck" pressed in it, and on the back it reads 119 CUSTOM.

Any ideas?

Negative, Edbeau. Its like the Buck Custom sheaths for some of their knives. I'm almost positive that it is, in fact.

I know this isn't the one, but I suspect that yours is from this same series. I do know that I have one of the Elk 119 LE's with the custom sheath, I just can't locate it right now. Is your's similar in design as this?

Buck119:

Welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately, your question is above my pay grade.:o I just don't know the answer to your questions. That will have to come from the more informed members of this forum. I am sure that someone has that information. I bought the sheath separate from the knife.

Buck119, Buck's Custom shop made those at various times . The Custom shop officially opened shop Jan. 1st, 1981 (with Mac and Leroy)and at first did up grades right off the mfg. line with the standard stamp . Later many special customers designs and utilized that special stamp, perhaps in 1982 or 83 which looks to be yours . That stamp was used until the shop closed in 1993 . Even not knowing the exact date the knife is still very valuable because its certainly from that shop and era . Great item . DM

From my knowledge, it was close to the end of production. The knife was bought by my dad as a gift to me when I was just a baby. I was born in 1990, so I'm thinking it was between then and '93. Thanks a lot guys, you know your stuff.

The three digit serial number indicates it was built as a service award knife for an employee. It was made in the original Buck Custom shop. If you contact Joe Houser at Buck he can probably tell you who the knife was made for and the date of manufacture. FYI.

Telechronos, you've hit the nail on the head. When, and for how long did they produce those?

Not only did I buy the sheath separately, but the knife itself will not help your quest. It is not marked Buck Custom but rather just BUCK 119 USA with the date stamp of 1988. Finally, the blade is not mirror polished. It is in its box with standard black sheath and bears catalog #579.

Telechronos that is one fine knife and sheath. I did not know that Buck had made any fixed blade sheats like that. When looking through the older catalogs on the Buck Collecters web site I did see where Buck had offered the different choices in handle material with out having to go through the custom shop, should have been paying closer attention to Buck back then. I don't have all of them, but I believe that they were made for all the 100 series fixed blade knives.

Here is the only other one I have:

This 120 is an LE 24/100.

Telechronos man is that ever a fine knife, where is the cake? That looks fine enough to cut some ones wedding cake. :) ;) I am really regretting missing those when Buck first offered them, it looks like a true treasure. HL

Tele, I know what your talking about . I've seen those offered at knife shows . This last show I was displaying at I saw a stag handled 119, 3 line(like yours) in a similar sheath offered for sale . I even talk briefly with the vendor, only he didn't know much about it . Thanks for the photos . DM
