My dad was a vietnam vet. I just found his ka bar knife. The box says "ka bar usmc fighting knife olean ny 14760". The knife itself only says "us camillus ny". I cant see if there is writing on the other side. The cross guard is broken off on both sides. It is in a kabar sheath with the marine emblem on it and says usmc. The knife definitely has alot of wear and tear on it and it had been sharpened numerous times. I've looked at so many different pictures but I still cant tell if this was my dads fighting knife in vietnam or not. Can some1 please help me?

Welcome to Bladeforums and the KA-BAR forum.

If you could post a picture, I know it would help, and we all just love, simply love to see the old, used war blades. If you need any help, I would be more than happy to oblige.

LIP,

If the box says "KA-BAR USMC Fighting Knife, Olean, NY 14760". The box is a KA-BAR box.
If the knife says," US/CAMILLUS, NY" The knife is a Camillus Fighting /Utility Knife.
Don't confuse the knife with the box it is in.
This is pure speculation, but somewhere in the life of the knife, the original Camillus sheath was replaced by a new KA-BAR sheath and box.
Pictures of the knife, box and sheath would aid in a positive ID.
Hope this helps.
