This folding knife comes with a tan leather case and is marked "SCHRADE+ USA LTD.". It appears to have Thuya wood grips and nickle-silver bolsters >>> 5" closed length *** 3 5/8" blade length measured from the bolster radius *** 8 5/8" overall length.

The knife was purchased at a gun show and does not come with a box. It appears unused but has surface handling scratches.

Could somebody please help me identify the model and give me an idea of what its worth.

Thank you.

Its a Schrade LB7. Hard to tell the age. You can get some idea by the number on the bolster if there is one.

There is another recent thread on the Schrade forum already covering that http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=529425

I don't know what its worth. I have one like it from the early 80s that my mother gave me as a birthday gift in mint condition. To me its not the $ value that matters I guess. I've seen them go from $50 to $125 on ebay but you can't really say ebay gives a true 'value' to the knives sold there.

That would be an LB-7NS (nickle silver). I find them produced from 1987 thru 1998 in limited quantities, often used for SFO's like the Harley Davidson knives and some of the military commemoratives. The wood is the standard used on the regular production knives, impregnated (pressure treated with polymer) hardwood of some type. The actual tradename used for the wood varied with the division (Schrade, Ulster, Imperial) and time.

Actually, depending on what size he lists above is correct, it could be an LB3. The LB3 blade is nowhere near 3 1/2" long, but it is just over 5" in overall length and has nickel silver bolsters. That said, I can't quite make out the stamp on the tang, but it looks like it might say "LTD", and I've never seen an LB3 with that stamp. And if the blade IS 3 1/2" long, then it would be an LB7 as stated previously.

Clemente, who took his dimensions from the Schrade catalogs (and I just confirmed those) says the OAL of the LB-3 is 3" with a 2" blade.

Codger,
Something is wrong in that catalog then. The overall length of the LB3 I just physically measured is 5", with a 2" blade. Even the LB1 is 3 3/4" long with a 1 1/2" blade. But the 5" overall length is why I thought it may be an LB3.

I think the LB3 is 3" CLOSED, with a 2" blade, and an OAL (Over All Length) of 5".
I'm guessing the first poster was referring to the CLOSED length of 5".
I could be wrong of course.

A 2" blade in a five inch knife? The catalogs list the tiny LB-1 at 2 3/8" overall (mine actually measures 2 1/4" with a 1 5/8" blade) and the LB-5 at 3 3/4". The only UH LBs that I am aware of which is the same length as the LB-7 are the LB-8 and LB-9, both constructed on the same frame. Are you saying you have an LB-3 blade in an LB-7 frame?

Alrighty then I am the one confuzzed by terms used in measuring. I was refering to closed lengths, not open lengths. When i said OAL, I meant of the frame, not including the blade.

Yes, when I was giving measurements, I was talking with the blade open. The LB3 is 3" long with the blade closed. And if the op was posting a 5" OAL with the blade CLOSED, then yes, I agree, it would be an LB7, which I tend to believe from what I can barely read of the tang stamp anyway. Sorry if I was causing any confusion.

Size matters? Geeze.
Im gonna get the ruler out and measure my set of LB's. I'll post closed length (the normal way to measure), blade length, and over all length.
I'll measure the blade length from tip to bolster edge (not to the pin)
Back before the game!
lb1-lb9 ok?

Total Lengths can be different by curvature of knife and operator error.
All lengths are in US standard inches. :)

and..and..I've always been told the width is more important than the length....could you measure your width in each case please Lrv???

...at least that's what my mother always told me,perhaps she was just being kind to me.....

Thanks for all the info. I'm sorry for the confusion created with my description, which I've edited.

Thanks again.
