Help identifying Splitting Maul Head

Trying to identify the markings on an Splitting Maul/ Axe head. The marking are pictured below. US in a circle, 8 V and Wear Safety Googles. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

"Wear safety goggles" stamps on striking tools became a n. American-mandated thing beginning in the late 1970s.

The thing that puzzled me on this was the axe shape opening for the handle I normally see round not the axe like shape so it caught my eye. Any thoughts on the handle type? just a straight Axe handle is what I was thinking no curves.

It's an axe-eye maul rather than a sledge-eye maul. Quite common. And yes, axe-eye maul handles are generally straight.
