I started cataloging my knives and was curious about the steel used in this one. It's a Schrade Old Timer Pal (model 120T) that appears to date back to when Schrade was still a US company (before being bought by Taylor Brands). I'm not sure exactly how old it is, but I've had it at least 14 years (I suspect my dad dropped it in my toolbox when I was cobbling stuff together before moving out).

The modern catalogs just say "440 stainless steel". Searching around, I've seen several mentions of 440A, but I don't know if they are referring to the new ones. I've also stumbled across a couple saying it is 1095 carbon steel.

Any ideas? Thanks.

The tang stamp shown was used from 1974 until the company went out of business, in 2001 IIRC. The steel is 1095 on the US made Old Timers for the most part, and the gray with black specs appearance of yours indicates that's the case here. It's an excellent little knife.
