I just recently recieved a Cold Steel voyager....only thing about it, is instead of a metal clip, it has a plastic one that runs from the handle. What im wondering is, since CS has the voyager (full, tanto, large) on their site with the metal clip and AUS 8A steel....is my model an older model with 420 steel?

Since when did CS start using AUS 8A steel in their folders? I was under the impression that they used 420 for all but a few of their knives, those not including the ones using Carbon V. Thanks. -Hunter

I think that the original run had plastic clips. I'm pretty sure about it but I'm not positive. And I didn't even know that CS was using AUS 8A in anything so naturally I don't know when they started.

edited to add:Okay, just took a look in my old catalog collection and I have a Spring 2000 Special Projects catalog that shows the old version with the plastic clip and the new version with the AUS 8A and metal clip. I have a Fall '99 catalog that shows Voyagers with AUS 8A blades and plastic clips, so I don't know which one yours is.

I was given a CS Voyager with a serrated tanto blade several years ago. It was the smallest model. It had a plastic clip and an AUS8 steel blade. I had an Endura at the time so I gave it to a friend. He still has it on him whenever I see him.

All of the older Voyagers that I have owned had integral zytel clips, the newer models have steel ones.I think the both the old and new models are produced with AUS 8A blades.

The change to a metal clip was made in 2000. I'm not sure about the steel, some time in the mid to late 1990's.

Ah ok, thanks guys! I've always thought that the main gripe with CS for people was the fact they used 420 for their steel...and I look at thier site now..and see most of thier folders use AUS 8A, and thats a pretty top notch steel. Yes, the clip is integrated into the handle. Its a litte tough opening , and has a few small stains on the blade. Both im sure I can fix. :) Still sharp as a razor though.
