I know this is where the kukri experts hang out, so maybe someone can help me identify this one.

Someone came to my house today to buy $35 worth of gun parts I had for sale, but when he got here he asked if I'd be willing to trade for this Kukri instead, and I decided to take a gamble on it (since I had no use for the parts he wanted anyway).

Anyone have any idea what I have here? Seems well built, everything is tight on it anyway.

Hey, with a little elbow grease, shoe polish, and buffing compound it ought to clean up pretty good and make a nice collection specimen. How's the edge?

It looks pretty crude. I hope it doesn't put you off khukuris, since a well-made khukuri can be a pleasure to use and good looking as well.

If it fits your hand you can use it for really nasty tasks like chopping bushes near the ground where it will probably hit on pebbles and stuff. Things that you wouldn't want to do with a quality blade. I suggest that you start by doing some hard testing, just to make sure the blade or handle doesn't break and go flying through the air. Wear gloves and eye protection.

The blade might turn out to be ok if the maker got the heat treatment right. You can sharpen the edge with sandpaper if it needs it. Don't try to give it a secondary bevel, since that usually worsens the chopping ability. The photo shows a convex edge, which is how it should be.
