I've noticed there seems to be a few SAK knuts around at the momment, so I wondered if any could help me identify mine ?

I've had it about 16 years, and as you can see from the photograph it's worked hard for a lot of those years. It's now in semi-retirement sitting in a leather sheath at the bottom of my work bag as a "just in case" knife.

Any help appreciated.

That's the Victorinox Champion - their flagship model before the SwissChamp (which added the pliers, circa 1986)

My red handled one was bought Jan/1984,
and it was shown extensively in Victorinox promo brochures and their 100 year Commemorative book of 1984

It was not shown in the (Swiss) Victorinox catalog/pamphlet of circa 1987/88, nor was it shown in the Forschner (US) catalog/leaflet of the same era.

When I wrote to Victorinox to ask, I was told it was still in production in March/1993.

However Frank very kindly sent me photocopies of an earlier Victorinox catalog - and it's shown here:

FYI: Our local wally world just put up a new cardboard knife display. It has the Vic champion on it for $34.95!!

UnknownVT - Thanks mate.

Markd1 - Heck, that's far cheeper than I paid for it 16 years ago
Good job I don't intend to sell it :D

Markd1,

When did they put up the new display? Here in Georgia they still have the Ranger for $34.95 not the Champion. I'd like to get another Champion especially if it has the pen and pin.:D

I don't think the Champion ever had the p&p. The newer SwissChamps have them. If you want to add them to one of your current SAKs, you can get new scales from http://www.pizzini.at/. I would email him first before you order off of the web site. He is a member here and gave me a good deal on shipping a few years ago.

The new display just went up in the past day or so. I didn't notice if the champion has the pen and pin, but it wouldn't surprise me. note how some models are being advertised with a "plus" after their name to indicate the pen and pin
They also had a lot of gerber tacticals and the new gerber multitool with the auto eject pliers and the new buck scissor multitool. Soon to be at a Wally World near you:D
